Why so much talk about a movie?

Post by saltheart foamfollower »

Im not trying to be a stick in the mud, but can we be honest here? I realy dont think that there WILL be a movie. From what I've read, it dosent seem that SRD is interested. I wouldnt mind if there was a movie project, but I realy arent counting on it. I just dont know if there is something im missing out on! All of this talk about about movie just... well yeah. Im not mad, just.. I dont know. :?

Will there really be a movie? Yes, eventually. Decades from now, perhaps. The LOTR took that long for the demand and the vision of someone to make it happen. We can barely imagine what CG will be capable of 20, 30 years from now. I'll be patient, the day will come. 8)

well, why not? I think nobody around considers that the idea has an actuality, but it is only natural that we fantasize about our favourite story

Heh. I think the main problem with a TC Movie is that it's so "dark" and "atypical" from your normal Hollywood movie. Plus, I don't think the general population of America would understand what TC was really about. They would just see him as "some leper who rapes people". Finally, like all books to movies, it would really miss out of a lot of the stuff in the book. Although I would still love to see some of these scenes on big screen.-jay |H

I think, if shot the right way, with an actor of Hopkin's caliber LFB could bcome a GREAT movie. There r ways 2 convey the rape scene as "implied". That could stun the audience--especially if we're left unsure about it until Triock confronts TC. It would take a very talented actor 2 endear us 2 the sometimes too spiteful TC! IMO, DaFoe did this in Shadow of the Vampire, and hardly spoke a word!

salty foamy .. we like to fantasize about such things just because we can .. and we're good at it  :P

I do not want to see a hollywood make of the chrons (too crassly).. I agree with 'amy' .. a brilliant british independant or our tried and proven NZealand director .. and we know how well LotR's was made .. I'd be thrilled if TCTC could be given as much justice as that superb product!!

Of course, it would be cool to have someone attempt a version of it - even if it was like the animated version of TLOTR ;)

I don't think Jackson may be the best choice. What makes LOTR so good a film is that he knew and loved the book - it was his vision that drove it. I can imagine that a director not understanding TCTC would fail in capturing the book. For instance, some directors would focus on the visuals and leave much of the spirit behind. Others would be appealed by the epic scope and again forget the small details that make the book. I can't say who'd be best to direct it. I know that I was casting it, I would get Jason Isaacs (from the Patriot and Event Horizon) as covenant.

You spell better than many Americans, amy....

Okay, so we need a film director who loves the books as much as we do. So -- who's going to volunteer to go to film school? :D

I'm with Saltheart on this one.
You people don't know what you're asking for if you want a movie made.

Lord of the Rings is an ABONINATION to a devoted fan of the books.

I'll modify Covenants own words to convey what I'm saying.

"There's only one way to hurt a man, give him back something that he loved broken and patched back together with childrens glue."

What changes are you willing to endure to make, say, the 1st Chronicles?
There are always changes.

Let's keep it in the Hollywood mindset.
Some bigwhigs in a boardroom decide to make some changes to up the boxoffice $$$
They decide to condense it to one movie with 3 parts.
It's considered daring and saves a ton of money too.

There's no love story though!
There has to be a love story.
No ifs, ands, or buts.
Major rewrite there.
(I feel like typing this morning.)
How about:

*******************

There is no rape and Lena becomes TC's love interest.
She follows him all the way to Revelstone and beyond.
She's the one, not the Manethrall, that uses her Land senses to lead the Quest into and out of the Wrightwarrens.
She's the one, not Bannor, that places Covenants Ring on the Staff to call down the Lions.
When TC returns Lena is the High Lord and Elena is also a Lord. But Elena is dangerous and obsessed with Kevin and the Ritual. And after drinking the Earthblood she still breaks the Law of Death and in the ensuing confusion The Staff of Law is "lost" again.
When TC returns the 3rd time, Lena is a retired Lord helping Mithil survive the unnatural winter and trying to come to grips with feeling responsible for Elena's death.
Together, with Foamfollower and one brave ur-Vile( that was trying to save it's Raver enslaved people), they reach Foul's Creche.
The ur-Vile slays the Raver and frees it's people in addition to stopping a genocide plot to kill all the Giants but is too weak to continue.
Foamfollower still becomes the PureOne.
But TC is faced between believing that the Land is real and saving both Lena and Foamfollower, or returning home safe as if waking from a dream.
TC chooses to save his friends!
Somehow Lena distracts Foul long enough for TC to grab the Stone and beat back Foul.
The shades of the Old Lords appear and Foul is diminished with laughter.
There's a tearfull moment when TC tells Lena he must destroy the Stone and that they will be parted for all time.
He smiles for Lena, for the first time since his leprosy.
Foamfollower and Lena leave the chamber and TC begins destroying the IllEarth Stone.
The Last scene we see in the Land has Foamfollower and Lena on a beach watching as Fouls Creche is being destroyed.
The ur-Vile walks slowly up to Lena and holds her hand.
In the distance we watch it crumble into the Sea as the sun rises.
TC wakes up and returns home after his stay in the hospital.
A car pulls up and a woman and small boy start to walk up the driveway.
TC has tears in his eyes as his family returns.
His trip to the Land had taught him how to live again....

*******************
:? :x :x :x

Oh, and the urviles will be blue/gray not black.
The politically correct world will insist on that.
There will be discussions about how all the bad people live in the East and the good live in the West.
It will be blasted as being Eurocentric.

There will be no "Foul needs the WG to free himself" theme.
Foul and the Cavewrights will be portrayed as evil industrialists bent on destroying and exploiting the Land.

Hile Troy will be a black woman, Mhoram will be autistic and the Bloodguard are all homosexual (the Gay community loves seeing strong powerful gay men portrayed in a non stereotype way and flock to see the movie. Which of course leads to the movie to being banned in some communities and then making more money that it would have otherwise)

The two characters that become a media sensation are the heroic ur-Vile and the trusty Giant..
Giant and ur-Viles toys flood the market.
Orcrest, Illearth Stones and White Gold rings are given out in Happy Meals.
A Saturday morning cartoon showcases the adventures of Foamfollower the Giant and Dekka the ur-Vile.

To keep it rated PG, to attract kids to the "Earth Friendly" message, the Bloodguard do most of the fighting. Their kicking and punching allow for a bloodfree family fun movie.
Both "Hellfire" and "bloody damnation" are replaced with "Dude!" and "Come on"

Lords Staffs are sold on fan sites along with Warmark breast plates and glow in the dark Lomillialor rods.

****************
It will happen.
And probably worse too.
