I think the Library is a brilliant idea .. I agree with syl. the General Fantasy Forum is definately a mish-mash of a wide variety of discussion topics .. not specifically author related .. but movies .. fantasy notions etc ..

We dont have a broad spectrum author forum and the Library is the place it should be imho .. and there are non-fantasy authors that do not sit within the General fantasy genre anyway ..

Tuvor made a request for a forum to discuss his favourite author and there seems to be significant interest in that author to support a discussion arena. and where the hell is he anyway? LOL ..

if you guys want that level of diversity .. then go ahead and post what interests you .. it will be clear soon enough what authors attract the interest and what dont ;)

I think The Library would work better without author-specific forums, I think they would be too specific. We should just make new topics in The Library for whichever authors we feel like discussing.

That said, I'd be in favour of an Iain Banks/Iain M. Banks forum, or a Terry Pratchett one for that matter. I'm just not sure if anyone else would post in them.

I'd happily post my little head off in a Pratchett forum!

I think it takes one of them admin types.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Well, if you are talking about new forums for other authors, I think that only High Lord Jay and Vain have that power...

Yeah, I'll be glad to start new author forums like the Harry Potter one, as long as there is enough interest in it. I don't want to add something if only one person wants the forum.-jay

*sniffs* Oh, great, no Barbara Hambly forum either. :( Well, I'll just have to content myself with the other 4 Hambly forums. :)

Well, the reason I said "More then just one person expresses interest" is because I think it'd be a little silly if everyone just started spouting their favorite authors and wanted to get personal forums for them. If someone is interested in an author and wants to tell more people about it, then that's what the General Fantasy forum is for. (Maybe I should change it to General Literature. Or add a General Literature Forum...hm...). But if there are multiple people who want to talk about an author, then by all means, setting up a forum for them to talk about said author in the library would probably be a good idea.-jay

I agree, Jay. I think it gets to be a bit much if you have separate forums for each other, especially if there's not much interest. You end up having a number of fairly inactive forums. Just group them together under a "General Literature" heading, or something like that, as Mhoram suggested.

Now that you have mentioned him I feel compelled to check this Hesse. Rand is good; but mistaken of course. :D

I am good with most author forums, BTW, but maybe we should check which authors people here really like. No point is putting up a Phil Rickman forum for instance. :)

I have seen some Stephen King fans around. How about a forum for that?
