Hmm... Those implications...

Here's a possibility. If everybody and everything can be returned to life, and they all have the ability to act or be used, then, in essence, all time periods can exist at the same time. Brinn can leave the Isle and talk to the soul of the One Forest; Berek and Nassic can work together, each contributing the knowledge of their own time; Kevin and Trell can team up in an attempt to cause ultimate devestation. This, by itself, could certainly be seen as a corruption of time. If there was anything Foul always wished he had done differently in the past, he can just do it now to the resurrected past.

I thought about what the breaking of the Law of Life would do a while ago... My own hope was that it would play a minimal role in the future series'. I didn't want to see characters just interacting haphazardly. The only people we've seen come back are Hollian (Sunder also? Or was he still alive?) and Covenant. Hollian came back because she was the person Sunder intended to resurrect to begin with. Covenant did because he died intentionally, it was his own power that killed him, etc.

At least, that's my hope. If any of the dead can just walk the Land again... For one thing, it'd take an incredible author who can make something with the potential for so much chaos (and so many easy solutions!) actually work. Of course, I believe Donaldson could pull it off if he wanted to. But somehow to me it wouldn't fit...

Eh, I don't know. At this point it's all just rank speculation. But fun anyway. Heh. :)

IOW, I could see the dead being a major part of the story, but I hope it doesn't end up that way.

Hmm... It occurs to me that I already have, to some degree, preconceived notions of what the Last Chronicles should and shouldn't have. I hope when Donaldson blows my ideas away I won't be bitter about it. :) Given my experience with the previous Chrons, though, I doubt I'll be disappointed.

I was just looking at the items that I can buy, and I would really like a Foul ducky. But there are none left? :( Hehe

Well, his imagination surpasses mine 100 fold. I'm sure he won't disappoint...he blew me away with the second chrons. No doubt in my mind that I will be completely blown by the next.

Wish I had just a little bit of his genius. Would love to be such a master storyteller. :)

Imo it is clear that Covenant is wild magic and that the bow of time is held together by wild magic. If Lord foul would corrupt time, would he not also corrupt wild magic??

If Thomas Covenant is wild magic himself, and he is also keystone of the Arch, and Lord Foul is just another side of Covenant, then all the Foul has to do is realize that he is _also_ wild magic and part of the Arch.

_Then_ there will be true fighting, oh yes. The World ripping apart, TC and Foul fighting in the void between worlds...

Furls Fire wrote:...will Foul corrupt him as well? And is that how the universe gets destroyed? I would hate to think that is how all this will end...the Evil prevailing. Yet, from what I am hearing...Covenant becomes Foul, so maybe, Foul is destroyed that way, which is what I tend to believe.
I've thought about this FF, and wonder if containing Foul is the only truly effective way of destroying him. Since nothing seems to keep him down eternally, and white gold is the only power that threatens him, perhaps Covenant (white gold incarnate) is the only thing strong enough to imprison Foul forever. If this is true, I can't imagine the pain Covenant would suffer possessing such evil and power. He loathed the power--even the potential power--of the pure white gold.

At the end of WGW Covenant transcends life, death and possibly time as he takes up residence in the Arch of Time itself. The impression I got was that TC was some sort of guardian of the Arch. If Foul rises to wreak havoc, will he challenge TC in an attempt to destroy the Arch? Makes sense as far as Foul becoming TC/TC becoming Foul goes.

Exactly what I was thinking. SRD says Foul will corrupt time itself. Which means...Covenant. He's now the keystone, because he is white gold incarnate. "An alloy" as he explained to Linden by Glimmermere.

All this really boggles my mind. The possibilities are endless. It is going to be an amazing end to an amazing story. :)

Law of Death

I remember reading somewhere a quote from Donaldson where he stated that since the Law of Death had been broken there would be nothing stopping Covenant from coming back.

This is true. It'll be interesting to see just how corrupt the wild magic becomes. Corrupt enough to tear everything apart instantly? Or a little so that TC is still able to resist Foul.

I agree that bringing back all of the dead of Andelain may be chaotic, but I'd still love to have Foamfollower, Mhoram, and Bannor back. And maybe instead of all of the dead being brought into the present, Covenant is able to travel back into time, to the different periods, perhaps going back to when foul first infiltrated the Old Lords Council and unmasking him so to speak. A dumb idea I guess, who knows. I would just really like to see those characters play an important part of the third series. Because really, Sunder never even came close to Mhoram, and Pitchwife, Honninscrave and The First were cool, but I'd have Foamfollower back any day.

I don't think the flawed healing of the Land will be an issue at all, I see it more like Linden just encouraged everything to grow again, like telling it to remember what it once was.

I was reading the ole' Bible last night and got to Leviticus....to the part where it talks about Leprosy, chapter 13 - 15 I think. I'm not a religious person, I've never read the bible before, I just got tired of being ignorant of religious references, and being told by several different religions that I'm going to Hell without even knowing why. So I decided to read it. Anyway, these are just some funny little observations I made.

Leviticus 13, 3.....this is where the issue of being Unclean is first brought up.

Leviticus 13, 13.....this may be totally off the wall or another reason why SRD chose white gold. This may be a way of telling Covenant or his audience that Covenant is in the end clean.

13 Then the priest shall consider:
and, behold, if the leprosy have cover-
ed all his flesh, he shall pronounce him
clean that hath the plague: it is all turned white
he is clean.

This part made me think of Covenant ritual of always shaving before returning to "his world." It may not be just he suspension of unbelief..it may be another way of cleansing or somthing.

Leviticus 14, 8

8 And he that is to be cleansed shall
wash his clothes, and shave off all his
hair, and wash himself in water, that
he may be clean:

That's all...you guys are genius I haven't posted much, but I read your posts every day. And just want to thank you guys for making me think.

Those are some good points, DR. It's hard to say if SRD intended such a direct reference, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. In any event, I'm sure the symbolism of the white in white gold was not lost on him.

And speaking for the rest of the geniuses, welcome to to the Watch.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Hey, don't go dissing my man Sunder! :D

If not for him, Covenant and Linden's adventure in the Land
would have ended where it began.

Sunder didn't have Mhoram's advantages of prescience or
two sane and loving parents ... of a whole and healthy
Land... and yet he still served the Land just as well as any
Lord ever did ... including Mhoram.
