Green chili

Post by Alynna Lis Eachann »

Alright, every time I mention green chili to someone, they look at me like I'm crazy. I know it exists, I practically lived off green chili burgers in Pagosa Springs, CO, and they even had it on the McD's menu there. Any other green chili fans here? I know there are some southwest US people here - tell me I wasn't hallucinating about this stuff!

The wonders of green chili:

The green chili burger. Basically a burger, with or without cheese, smothered or drowned in green chili, with some onions on top. If done properly, requires a knife and fork, as the hamburger buns will be swimming in chili and begging for a life preserver.

Green chili cheese fries. Like cheese fries, only drowned in green chili. Again, not a finger food if done correctly.

Green chili omelette. Any good, southwestern-style, omelette covered in green chili. Works with veggie omelettes and meat-filled ones, except the ham, in my opinion.

I have never heard of green chili, but I have fallen in love with enchiladas verde. Is the chili also made with a tomatillo base?

I think the "problem" is, at least thru my experience, is that it's usually referred to as "verde sauce", and is Mexican in orientation. like on enchiladas... ;) and yes, I LOVE it!

Red exclusively. I know this is heresy, but I don't like the taste--or much of anything else--about green.

Heresy, indeed!

Hey, Lucimay, I don't suppose you could bring a jar of the stuff with you when you come to DC? ;)

I wonder what the furthest east-ward instance of green chili is. People in Boulder, CO seem to have no idea what the stuff is... Maybe it's a function of the continental divide??
