i can't get over
guns and dolls any afternoon...

This will come as a shock to many, but i really like this song by Oingo Boingo...
I’m so sorry, please forgive me
Who do I pray to to straighten out this problem?
Straighten out this problem, straighten out my mind.
Straighten out this crooked toungue...
My mind has wandered, from the straight and narrow.
My mind has wandered from the flock you see.
My mind has wandered, the man just said so.
My mind has wandered, I heard it on tv.
And the flock has wandered away from me.

-chorus-
All around the world now
Like a big bright cherry cloud
Traveling from home to home
Tv sets and telephones
Here it comes just like a storm
Bathe in it and be reborn
Time to let the world know
Welcome madness, say hello
Like a wave we cannot see
Washing over you and me
Hiding here and hiding there
Madness hiding everywhere
Such a curiosity
Here it comes to set us free
Plenty left for you and me
Say hello insanity

I am the virus, are you the cure?
I am morally, I’m morally impure
I am a disease and I am unclean
I am not part of god’s well oiled machine
Christian nation, assimilate me
Take me in your arms and set me free
I am part of a degenerate elite
Dragging our society into the street
Into the abyss and to the sewer don’t you see
The man just told me, he told me on tv

Do you think you’re better than me
Do you want to kill me or befriend me

And the alchoholic bastard waved his finger at me
His voice was filled with evanglical glee
Sipping down his gin and tonics
While preaching about the evils of narcotics
And the evils of sex, and the wages of sin
While he mentally fondles his next of kin
My mind has wandered from the flock you see
And the flock has wandered away from me
And he waved his hypnotizing finger at me

Let’s imitate reality
Let’s strive for mediocrity
Let’s make believe we’re all the same
Let’s sanitize our little brains
I’d love to take you home with me and tuck you into bed
I’d love to see what makes you tick inside your pretty head
I’d love to hear you laugh tonight, I’d love to hear you weep
I’d love to listen to you while you’re screaming in your sleep

Christian sons, christian daughters
Lead me along like a lamb to the slaughter
Purify my brain and hose down my soul
White perfection, perfection is my goal

Do you think you’re better than me
Do you want to kill me or befriend me

Christian nation, make us alright
Put us through the filter and make us pure and white
My mind has wandered from the flock you see
And the flock has wandered away from me
Let’s talk of family falues while we sit and watch the slaughter
Hypothetical abortions on imaginary daughters
The white folks think they’re on the top ask any proud white male
A million years of evolution, we get danny quayle

(chorus)

I’d love to take you home with me, I’d love to tuck you in
I wish I could protect you from the wages of our sin
I’d love to hear you scream tonight, I’d love to hear you cry
Protect you from the madness that is raining from the sky

(chorus)

I’d love to take you home with me and tuck you into bed
I’d love to see what makes you tick inside your pretty head
I wish that I could keep you in a precious chinese box
On sundays I would pray for you so it would never stop
I’d love to hear you laugh tonight, I’d love to hear you weep
I’d love to listen to you while you’re screaming in your sleep
I’d love to soothe you with my voice and take your hand in mine
I’d love to take you past the stars and out of reach of time
I’d love to see inside your mind, to tear it all apart
To cut you open with a knife and find your sacred heart
I’d love to take your satin dolls and tear them all to shreds
I’d love to mess your pretty hair, I’d love to see you dead.

You'd prolly really like the album. It came out in 1994, but it's scathing to my ideals.

Then again, I happen to like a lot of stuff that is scathing to my ideals.

No. Musically it's utterly brilliant (PM me if you want me to burn you a copy of the CD, it's got a great version of "I Am The Walrus" on it too). I don't know how much Oingo Boingo you've listened to , but it's....Dense. Really thick stuff, lot's of things going on in the mix.

But lyrically, it's.....not in line with my politics, shall we say. It's like a Joan Byez album, but better musically. I cringe at some of the lyrics, but the record is so well done I like listening to it.

Here's what I mean...
Don't you know we got smart bombs,
It's a good thing that our bombs are clever.
Don't you know that the smart bombs are so clever,
They only kill bad people, now

Don't you know though our kids are dumb,
We got smart bombs, what a joyous thing, now
Here we go so let's drink a toast,
To those clever bombs, and the men who built them

There they go now, there go all my friends
There they go now, marching off to war again
Smiling proudly, with their heads in the clouds

Don't you know this is better than any video friend,
It's an action movie
Here we go watch the bad guys get their butts kicked
Really makes me feel good.
Here we go watching CNN, the adrenaline rushes through my veins
Don't you know it's a feel good show, electronic bliss
It's a video, video...

There they go now, there go all my friends
There they go now, marching off to war again
With their bright flags waving in the wind
There they go now, marching off to war again
Smiling proudly, with their heads in the clouds

Aren't you glad we got smart bombs,
It's a good thing our bombs are clever
It's a shame that our kids are dumb,
But our bombs are smart, what a lucky thing now
Don't you know it's a feel good show and it's suitable
For the whole darn family
Come on out everybody shout, give a big salute to our ingenuity
Don't you know this is better than any video friend,
It's an action movie
Here we go, watch the bad guys get their butts kicked,
And it makes me feel good
Don't you know it's Nintendo,
Really gets the blood flowing through my veins now
Don't you know it's a feel-good show,
Electronic bliss, it's a video, video

There they go now, there go all my friends
There they go now, marching off to war again
With their bright flags waving in the wind
There they go now, marching off to war again
Smiling proudly, with their heads in the clouds

There they go now, there go all my friends
There they go now, marching off to war again
With their bright flags waving in the wind
There they go now, marching off to war again
Smiling proudly, with their heads in the clouds
See that smile now marching on in the light, yeah...
Now, you understand where I'm coming from, so you understand why I cringe a bit when listening to this, but my God is this a good song.

I think you'd be very, very surprised by my CD collection. I've had a lot of them since I was a flaming Liberal back in the late '80s and early 90s. Well, mid-80s anyway... ;)

One of these days the topic will come up in the Tank as to why I became Conservative, but way, way back when, I was a smelly hippie with hair down to the top of my pants.

Couldn't sleep and I've got a nice buzz going, and I don't have anything to do tomorrow. It's going to rain all day so I can't take the Harley out, so I'm OK with nursing a hangover and doing laundry.

Yeah, you'd be surprised. I've got Dokken next to Neil Diamond.

Neil was one of the 1st concerts I ever saw, at the Cow Palace out there. Without a doubt, he is the Jewish Elvis. The man's got sick pipes.

Now don't get me started on Tom Jones...

I'm a man, and I've seen Tom 3 times, and would see him again at the drop of a hat. Best. Voice. Ever.

Did you see him and Dwight Yokum on Crossroads? Utterly amazing.

That sounds fantastic! I've got an old VHS with Brian Jones, Etta James, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, and BB King, as well as a few others. I've had to patch the tape up several times 'cause it keeps falling apart, but I'd like to transfer it to DVD so others can enjoy it.

Speaking of which, anyone got the ARMS concert they can copy for me?

This DVD release features the 1983 A.R.M.S. (Action for Research into Multiple Sclerosis) benefit concert, held at London's famed Royal Albert Hall. This is the full concert featuring part 1 and 2. Track Listing: Volume 1: * Eric Clapton: 1. Everbody Oughta Make a Change 2. Rita Mae 3. Lay Down Sally 4. Medley: Rambing on My Mind 5. Have You Ever Loved a Womam 6. Cocaine * Andy Fairweather-Low: 1. Man Smart, woman Smarter * Steve Winwood: 1. Road Runner 2. Slowdown 3. Gimme Some Lovin 4. Take Me To the River Volume 2: * Jeff Beck 1. Star Cycle 2. Pump (The Pump) 3. Goodbye Pork Pie Hat 4. Hi Ho Silver Lining * Jimmy Page 1. Led Boots 2. Whose to Blame 3. City Sirens 4. Stairway to Heaven * Eric Clapton 1. Tulsa Time 2. Layla * Ronnie Lane & Cast 1. Goodnight Irene
Apparently it was out on DVD.
