Since we're talking about new forums, and this has already been touched upon briefly, what about a non-sport, non-pc/console game, non-one-word-game forum?
Y'know, chess, poker (I know WSOP is on ESPN, but... I'd typically never think to look in Sports for poker), backgammon, trivia and riddles... etc? Stuff like "The Stupid Addictive Games" thread could even fit.

Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Isnt that the Hall of Gifts? which already been used.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
There's also the rock garden that Lena was gathering suru pa'maerl (sp?) stones for. I think it had a name, but I don't have access to my books.
Funny, did a google search for '"suru pa*" Lena' and there are a number of spam sites using pieces of Donaldson to get hits. Oh, and SRD is "Stiven R. Donal'dson" in Russian, apparently.

So where are the current news threads? If that's not the case for the Tank, then I doubt people will create them, and if they do we will have the Tank again, because the discussions will be the same.
As I recall, the stickied threads there deal with current news.

Comics and humour--I don't care one way or the other.
However, I do have an opinion about the think tank. I do not think aother forum for news or current events is needed. In fact, I think this is what the Tank should be for exclusively. Political discussions in general should be in the Philosophy forum i.e. The Close.

Good luck getting people to separate news from discussion of said news. And I'm sure that will include political discussion.

I can see the logic in that, but I think I speak for my co-mods when I say, "Thanks but no thanks." I don't mind philosophical-type political posts (like Tazz's recent one), but generally, that kind of thing falls under jurisprudence, which was Sky's original aim for the forum.

Although most news threads will inevitably contain political discussion (and should be in the think tank), politics as a subject is not in anyway limited to current events or the news. It is a branch of philosophy just as metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and esthetics's are.

How is that a clique? Because he saw our viewpoint and agreed with it? Last time I checked a clique was 'A small exclusive group of friends or associates.' For a start we are not barring anyone nor are we demanding anything. So didn't see the reasoning behind our argument and just joined us because we're exclusive?

Exactly, didn't you know that Jay made it compulsary not to agree with anyone or anything?

Art forum (originally requested by Lord Foul): shot down
Buffy/Cult forum (originally requested by Nav): shot down
General News forum (Revan): shot, but still a pulse, if just barely
The lesson I take from all this is that it's time I stopped being a goody-two-shoes and started being more of a cranky S.O.B., because being nice and reasonable about requesting stuff sure ain't workin'. Granted, being a jerk probably won't get results either, except of the kind involving the Admin Ban Stick, but we'll see.
Matrix, it's more the issue that the forums that have been requested are pointless. Art forum, why? How many art threads do we get a day? Same with Buffy/cult.
My main issue with such threads is that they make gen disc forums redundant. Why have a gen sci-fi forum if there's so many specialty forums? It's not about being nice/cranky; it's about redudancy and too many forums. Dont want to wade through lots of sub forums or forums.

Well, there's no wading through the think tank considering the news threads are stickied, the comic threads (just three, mind you) are still at the top of the forums, and as for humour - well joke threads tend to die when the joke dies and there's no sense bumping an old joke.
This is the official forum for the discussion of the works of stephen donaldson, not a chat forum. Sure it's nice to talk about lots of things, but that's what the gen disc threads are about. As soon as we start making specialty forums we are making gen disc threads redundant and flooding SRD-oriented site.

Flooding Donaldsons site? We have a forum which has more posts in it than any of the Donaldson based forums. As does the General discussion and Think-Tank. I think we've all estblished that we don't just come here for donaldson anymore.
