Anyone listen to much Electronica out there?

Post by Corruption »

Including, but not exclusive to, the likes of:

Plaid, Orbital, Global Communication, Monolake, Future Sound of London, Higher Intelligence Agency, Metamatics, Norken, Pentatonik, Ulrich Schnauss, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher.

Plus older stuff like Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre.

I can also highly recommend the following:

Grant Lee Buffalo (and Grant Lee Phillips' solo work)
Cocteau Twins
Sigur Ros
Interpol
Editors

Any more?

I like Delerium. It's a group or duo based in Vancouver, I think. Really love their Poem CD from 2000. In fact, it's among my top 30 or so all-time favorite CDs.

I love Interpol.

The Chemical Brothers are a mix of hip-hop and electronica (as far as I know), and they're not bad at all.

I like Kraftwerk and Neil Young's tribute to them on Trans, but that's about it...

Kraftwerk are great. The fathers of electronica.

I love The Chemical Brothers. Their version of Thunderstruck (AC/DC) is excellently done, and I advise it to all.

I don't at the moment, but I'm starting to get into it. I've ordered an Aphex Twin album which should arrive soon (and I like what I've heard of that), as well as Autechre.

Yep, forgot to mention Autechre as well, great bleeps and beats!

Chemical Brothers stuff was great up until "Surrender" IMHO, anything after that hasn't really done much for me. "Dig Your Own Hole" remains one of my favourite albums ever though.

Anyone who likes Interpol should also check out "She Wants Revenge". Great band just taking off in the US.

I've heard a couple She Wants Revenge songs, and they are definitely pretty good.

Just saw Sigur Ros, insane!!!!!!!!!!!! Also been listening to this guy called Jamie Lydell, funky as all get out. Anything with Dangermouse is cool, like that new Gnarles Barkley track, "crazy". First single in history to go number 1 just on downloads.
When I learned that the word 'decide' has the same latin root word as 'suicide' and genocide', I started making more choices.

Er, is Goldfrapp electronica?
I'm not very good with "genres".....
Not as keen on the latest one (Supernature) as the last one (Black Cherry), but they make me feel all wibbly inside sometimes!

RE: Sigur Ros
I remember borrowing an album years ago and liking it. Then forgot all about them til last year when I saw them in the "Recommended" section of a major music shop!
I take it they are quite well-known now?
