I really enjoyed watching the progression of Troy through the Illearth war a lot more the second time.
Start where you are,
use what you have,
do what you can.

I've reread the first and second chronicles so many times over the past 20 years that they feel part of MY life now. But with the new Runes of the Earth I find myself questioning things I previously accepted - like - if the Despiser cannot use the white gold unless it is freely given, then how come Linden can just "possess" Covenant and use it? Ravers can possess, too. So which is it? Also, I never pictured Revelstone clearly until the description of Jeremiah's tinkertoy creation of it in the prologue.
I do find that this newest book has added depth and dimensions I previously didn't catch in the first two trilogies - like why the Ranyhyn took Elena to the horserite as a child. actually, I think I'm going to reread ROTE right now! :D
Did You intend
that beauty and truth should pass utterly from the Earth?

The answer is clear if you think on what the difference is between possessing Covenant and possessing the ring. Linden doesn't use the ring directly; she possesses Covenant, and Covenant uses the ring (under her control). Analagy: you may not be able to play like a concert pianist, but if you possessed a concert pianist, ... When Ravers possess Giants, they get all of the abilities of Giants. And so on.

When Covenant gave the ring to Linden, she didn't need to possess him to use it any more. Now it was hers to use.

That's whats most horrible about possession - you get everything that the possessee has, and leave them with nothing but the ability to watch how you use it against them.

Tickle me if I'm wrong but I thought the Ravers couldn't possess just anyone, I thought it had to be a weak mind or something.

As far as I understood it (although with each new book SRD might throw my understanding out the window), the Ravers could possess animals and "ordinary" humans, but they couldn't take over Giants or Haruchai without the help of another power (i.e. the Illearth Stone).

Yup thats how i remembered it.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

Full of the heavens and time.
