Artwork Inspired by The Gap Cycle?

Post by Motherlode »

I stumbled upon these not too long ago, and I couldn't help but wonder if the artist might have gotten his inspiration from 'The Gap Cycle' for these particular works.

The artist is somebody named KAGAYA. I believe he is Japanese.

Very cool artwork! However, I pictured everything to do with the "Gap" series as being dirtier, grittier, less "futuristic" (think "Alien")

The 1st pic looks like it's straight off Thanatos Minor at Billingate.
2nd reminds me of what UMCPHO could possibly look like perhaps, and the 3rd reminds me of UMCPHQ

Yeah elf that's true.

The pics are a little too clean and shiny to be right out of the books. I just really think of Angus going EVA in the 1st one.

i always thought the cover art of the intitial editions of the Gap series were remiscent of throw-back science fiction conceptual art from the 60's, which i really liked.

It's like the GAP Lite.
I thought you were a ripe grape

the kind you keep for a really long time

Very cool -certainly not as bleak as I picture the Gap universe, but I can see where the artist might possibly have been inspired by the series.

The space station in the second one actually does look a bit like the way I picture UMCPHO. The ships don't match my mental image, but the station is very cool.

[pedantry]UMCPHQ is a sphere.[/pedantry] :P

I have to agree, I like them, though they're too clean for the Gap. I too immediately thought of Billingate when I saw the first picture. On the other hand, if you switch off the Gap connections in your brain, they're fairly generic SF scenes.
