Deadwood
I had friends recommend I watch Deadwood. I've been renting the first season's episodes this week and I must admit I'm hooked. There are such vivid characters in the series. Al Swearengen is the most interesting tv villain I've seen in a while, and E.B. Farnum is quite a weasel.
If you don't mind the language, it's a very enjoyable series.

This is a great show. The language gets a little too much, but tolerable.
I checked out their website on HBO and found out most of the characters were actual people. The sheriff, Swearengen, the bodyguards, etc. Even Trixie was a known prostitute who cut up a customer. Really interesting back story. Can't hardly wait for the new season.

Old man how is it that you hear these things?
Young man how is it that you do not?

yeah but by the end of the second season those actors were speaking that language like it was Shakespere. and Ian McShane is one eloquent *you know what*!!!Prover of Life wrote:This is a great show. The language gets a little too much, but tolerable.

i won't lie to you, i have a great affinity for westerns so i'm a bit biased but i think this is one of the best series ever for historical settings!! just brilliant use of historical backdrop.
i miss Al and Trixie and Bullock and Starr and Jane and Charlie.
i can't find out when the next season is startin on HBO's site, bummah.

Has anyone been watching Season 3? This season has been frigging incredible, I have to say I'm more than a little bummed out that it's almost over again. The finale is Sunday, with no more seasons coming.
The good news is that I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed that although there won't be anymore seasons, there will be a duet of movies wrapping up the story. It's better than nothin'.

Sure Lucimay! How ya been?
The finalle was sooo tense. This show is really good at long, incredibly tense scenes where you're just on the edge of your seat expecting all hell to break loose at any moment. And then it doesn't, and it's kinda like blue balls of the brain.
I guess. Kinda. Actually I wouldn't have any idea, but the analogy seemed good at the time.....
That thing that Trixie did was just drop dead awesome!! You know the one. It resulted in some truly tragic consequences, but it was still awesome.
I can't wait for the movies now.......I'm not giving up on my long awaited catharsis....

OH YEAH!!! JT Farnum. what a character!!! i love them all!!!! sheesh. i think i have to buy the whole thing. i love it and miss it.dlbpharmd wrote:I've just finished Season 1 and started Season 2. At first I had this "WTF?" attitude about this show but it really grew on me, especially the characters and dialogue. I agree that Swearengen is a great villian, and I just love Farnum, practically everything he says is hilarious!

Deadwood series 3 has just finished in New Zealand, I'm seriously thinking about buying all 3 dvd's - unlikely to re-run here
what a fabulous shows, the relationship between bullock and his "wfe" is extraordinary for its un-said ness, and that episode where Dority (?) kills captain Turner - whoa....
