The Undertones 'Here Comes The Summer'

Oh baby baby what can I do
You know you drive me crazy when I'm looking at you
The summer's really here and it's time to come out
Time to discover what fun is about

Here comes the summer
Here comes the summer
Here comes the summer

Keep looking for the girls with their faces all tanned
Lying on the beaches all covered in sand
Stretching out their long legs lying in the sun
They know they're beautiful they're having fun

Here comes the summer

(I know I know lyrics were never their strong point! )

Yeah
Can you feel it baby
I can too

Ooh
Come on swing it
C-C-Come on swing it
Ooh
Come on swing it
C-C-Come on swing it

1-2-3 - Now we come to the pay off

It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation

Yo! It's about that time
To bring forth the rhythm and the rhyme
I'm a get mine so get yours
I wanna see sweat comin' out your pores
On the house tip is how I'm swingin' this
Strictly Hip-Hop boy, I ain't singin' this
Bringing this to the entire nation
Black, white, red, brown
Feel the vibration

Come on come on
Feel it feel it
Feel the vibration

It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation

Vibrations good like Sunkist
Many wanna know who done this
Marky Mark and I'm here to move you
Rhymes will groove you
And I'm here to prove to you
That we can party on the positive side
And pump positive vibes
So come along for the ride
Making you feel the rhythm is my occupation
So feel the vibration

Come on come on
Feel it feel it
Feel the vibration

It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation

Donnie D break it down

Donnie D's on the back up
Drug free, so put the crack up
No need for speed
I'm the anti D-R-U-G-G-I-E my
Body is healthy
My rhymes make me wealthy
And the Funky Bunch helps me
To bring you a show with no intoxication
Come on feel the vibration

Yeah
Can you feel it baby
I can too

It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation

Now the time has come for you to get up
The rest had you fed up but Yo, I won't let up
On the rhythm and rhyme that's designed to
Make your behind move to what I'm inclined to
Pure Hip Hop, no sell out
If you ain't in it to win it
Then get the hell out
I command you to dance
I wanna see motivation
Come on now feel the vibration

(Piano solo)

It's such a good vibration
Come on come on come on
It's such a sweet sensation
Feel it feel it

It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation

(Piano - out)

It's such a good vibration
Come on come on come on
It's such a sweet sensation
Feel it feel it

It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation

(Piano - out)

aarrgh...why do song threads in Vespers inevitably turn into "litany-of-lyrics" threads? :faint:

Just teasing. :P

(Song lyrics by themselves mean little to me, which is why I don't usually post any. Only when in combination with the emotional content of the music do I really pay any attention to the words. But how else are we going to discuss songs, eh? It's frustrating that we can't get across to each other the music itself, but then we'd end up having to link to an mp3 file of every song we're discussing, or something like that, which would be impractical.)

Many of my favorite songs - of summer and all other seasons - are from the early to mid-'80s, when my interest in FM radio as well as music videos peaked.

Magic / The Cars -- Summer, Ric Ocasek sings, turns me upside down. He continues, Summer, summer, summer/ it's like a merry-go-round. Turning to the object of his desire: I see you under the midnight/ all shackles and bows/ High shoes with the cleats a-clickin'/ a temperamental glow. Ocasek's sly picture, filtered through the high gloss and sparkle of the Cars' studio production, becomes a vision of intoxicating perfume and dizzy romance, but also of sweet nostalgia. I see you under the midnight/ Love darts in your eyes/ How far can you take it/ Till you realize/ There's magic in your eyes.

Sunshine go away today,
I don't feel much like dancin'
Some man's gone, he's tried to run my life
Don't know what he's askin'

He tells me I'd better get in line
Can't hear what he's sayin'
When I grow up, I'm gonna make it mine
These ain't dues I been payin'

How much does it cost? I'll buy it.
The time is all we've lost. I'll try it.
He can't even run his own life,
I'll be damned if he'll run mine
Sunshine

Sunshine go away today,
I don't feel much like dancin'
Some man's gone, he's tried to run my life
Don't know what he's askin'

Working starts to make me wonder where
fruits of what I do are going
He says in love and war all is fair
He's got cards he ain't showin'

How much does it cost? I'll buy it.
The time is all we've lost. I'll try it.
He can't even run his own life,
I'll be damned if he'll run mine
Sunshine

Sunshine come on back another day
I promise you I'll be singin'
This old world she's gonna turn around
brand new bells'll be ringin'
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

Summertime
Janis Joplin

Summertime shine for living is easy
Fish are jumoing and the cotton
The cotton is high
Oh, your daddy's rich
And your mama, so good looking man
She is good looking nice
Hush baby baby, no no don't you cry
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're gonna run up, run up singing
You're gonna spread tour wings
And take, take to the sky
But I'm till that morning
Honey nothing's gonna harm you now
No no no no don't you cry

Faith Hill
Sunshine & Summertime

We've got bare foot ladies
and tricked out Mercedes
People getting crazy on the boulevard
We've got classic colas
and ice cold corona's
and big pool parties in the back yard

I said

hey, that's the way we do it
new friends and blue skies that never end.
Hey, that's the way we like it
Good times, sunshine and summertime.

You'll see straw sombreros
and t-top camero's
Stereos blasting in the parking lot.
You'll see rock hard bodies
and bikini hotties
and everybody's got it goin' on,
and showing what they got.

Hey, that?s the way we do it.
New friends and blue skies that never end.
Hey that?s the way we like it
Good times, sunshine and summertime.

I said Hey everybody, can't you feel the rhythm
Now, hey everybody, don?t you want to party
Hey everybody, can't you feel the rhythm now
Hey everybody, don't you want to party

heyyyyy, that's the way we do it
new friends and blue skies that never end.
Hey that's the way we like it
Good times, sunshine and summertime.

hey, that's the way we do it
new friends and blue skies that never end.
Hey that's the way we like it
Good times, sunshine and summertime.

Good times, sunshine and summertime
Good times, sunshine and summertime

They Can't Buy the Sunshine by Turin Brakes is a great summery song, though JackInABox is another really nice track from that album.
All in all it's been a blast
But fame and fortune never lasts
So, we'll take refuge in the sound
They burned our churches to the ground

But they can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sun
But they can't stop the sunshine on the sun, the sun, the sun

We may have sold our very souls
The ghosts inside the radio
They warned us once and they told us twice
This life's never very nice

They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sun
They can't stop the sunshine on the sun, the sun, the sun

The credit card skyline rises high
Crushing the sky and multiplies
They bind up souls to fill their holes
We know the one thing they don't know

But they can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sun
But they can't stop the sunshine
They can't stop the sunshine
They can't stop the sunshine on the sun, the sun, the sun
Shine on the sun, the sun, the sun (x4)

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

If i had a day that i could give you
I'd give to you a day just like today
If i had a song that i could sing for you
I'd sing a song to make you feel this way

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

If i had a tale that i could tell you
I'd tell a tale sure to make you smile
If i had a wish that i could wish for you
I'd make a wish for sunshine all the while

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high
Sunshine almost all the time makes me high
Sunshine almost always

OK, my first post in this thread was a Brady Bunch song. But this one is a real song, my actual favorite sunshine song.

Mr. Blue Sky, by Electric Light Orchestra

<Good morning! Today's forecast calles for blue skies!>

Sun is shinin' in the sky,
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin'
Everybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day.

Runnin' down the avenue,(Pant, Pant, Pant)
See how the sun shines brightly
In the city on the streets
Where once was pity,
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today.

CHORUS
Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long (so long) where did we go wrong.

Hey there Mr. Blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do,
Everybody smiles at you.

Hey you with the pretty face,
Welcome to the human race
A celebration Mr. Blue Sky's
Up there waitin' and today
Is the day we've waited for

CHORUS

Mr. Blue you did it right,
But soon comes Mr. Night,
Creepin' over, now his
Hand is on your shoulder,
Never mind I'll remember you this way.

CHORUS
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
-Paul Simon

I was walking along in the sun
Taking pictures of everyone
And there's something on the tip of my tongue
Ohhhhh

Well it's easy to see from afar
And it's easy to be on your guard
But it's harder just to be who you are
Ohhhhh

When all these
People who will lead you down the back of the track
They're on your back
They will try and tear you apart
But believe and you will see that there's no reason to doubt
Then you will find
You can do much better than that
If you think of all the things that you feel
All the voices in your head that you hear
It's a mystery that we are all still holding on

When all these
People who will lead you down the back of the track
They're on your back
They will try and tear you apart
But believe and you will see that there's no reason to doubt
And you will find
You can do much better than that

If you see me hit the ground
Don't come near don't make a sound

I was walking along in the sun
Taking pictures of everyone
And there's something on the tip of my tongue

Throwing Muses - Summer St

I saw him first on Summer Street
He held my breath
A famous face
And instant death
He saw me next
One lonesome body
One lonesome song
No lonesome body
No lonesome song
Drink to my friend
Drink to the sun
To your health
'Til daylight comes
And burning wealth
I hold my breath
Lenin, Marx
Marx, Lennon

It's summertime, summertime
Sum, sum, summertime
Summertime, summertime
Sum, sum, summertime
Summertime, summertime
Sum, sum, summertime
Summertime, summertime
Sum, sum, summertime, summertime

Well, shut them books and throw 'em away
And say goodbye to dull school days
Look alive and change your ways
It's summertime

Well, no more studying history
And no more reading geography
And no more dull geometry
Because it's summertime

It's time to head straight for them hills
It's time to live and have some thrills
Come along and have a ball
A regular or free-for-all

Well, are you comin' or are you stayin
You saw it first and I won't complain
Hurry up before I change
It's summertime

Well, I'm so happy that I could flip
Oh, how I'd love to take a trip
I'm sorry teacher but zip your lip
Because it's summertime

It's time to head straight for them hills
It's time to live and have some thrills
Come along and have a ball
A regular or free-for-all

Well we'll go swimmin' every day
No time to work just time to play
If your folks complain just say
It's summertime

And every night we'll have a dance
'Cause what's a vacation without romance
Oh man this jive gets me in a trance
Because it's summertime

It's time to head straight for them hills
It's time to live and have some thrills
Come along and have a ball
A regular or free-for-all
It's summertime

It's summertime, summertime
Sum, sum summertime
Summertime, summertime
Sum, sum summertime
Summertime, summertime
Sum, sum, summertime
Summertime, summertime
Sum, sum, summertime
Summertime

It's summertime
fall far and well Pilots!

Summertime Blues
(Eddie Cochran)

Well I'm gonna raise a fuss
And I'm gonna raise a holler
About workin' all summer
Just tryin' to earn a dollar
Well, I went to my boss
Who governs me
He said, "No, dice, bud
You gotta work late"

Sometime I wonder
What I'm gonnna do
There ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

Well, my mom and papa told me
Now you better earn some money
If one of you is gonna go
Ridin' next Sunday
Well, I didn't go to work
I told my boss I was sick
He said, "You can't use the car
'Cause you didn't work a lick"

Sometime I wonder
What I'm gonnna do
There ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

Gonna save two weeks
Gonna have a fine vacation
Gonna take my problem
To the United Nations
Well, I went to my congressman
He sent me back a note
It said, "I''d like to help you, hon
But you're too young to vote"

Sometime I wonder
What I'm gonnna do
There ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

Now there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
Now there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion

I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.

Head Over Heels
Go-Go's

Been running so long
I've nearly lost all track of time
In every direction
I couldn't see the warning signs
I must be losin' it
'Cuz my mind plays tricks on me
It looked so easy
But you know looks sometimes deceive
Been running so fast
Right from the starting line
No more connections
I don't need any more advice
One hand's just reaching out
And one's just hangin' on
It seems my weaknesses
Just keep going strong

Head over heels
Where should I go
Can't stop myself
Outta control
Head over heels
No time to think
Looks like
The whole world's out of sync

Been running so hard
When what I need is to unwind
The voice of reason
Is one I left so far behind
I waited so long
So long to play this part
And just remembered
That I'd forgotten about my heart

Head over heels
Where should I go
Can't stop myself
Outta control
Head over heels
No time to think
Looks like
The whole world's out of sync

and.....

Devil In My Car Lyrics

HELP! The devil's in my car.
HELP! The devil's in my car.
HELP! The devil's in my car.
Ho, devil's in my car, whoa please
PLEASE! Leave me alone!

We're really tearin' tar.
We're goin' 90 miles an hour.
Ho! He's drivin' me crazy.
He's drivin' me to Hell now.

He's pointing his pitchfork at me.
He's in the front seat of my car!
He's taking over!
Oo, he ripped my upholstry.
He's at the wheel,
HELP! The devil's in my car.
HELP! He's drivin' too far.

(scream!) Ooooooh!

Whoooa!

I can't lock the door,
I can't put on my safety belt.
There's nothing for me to do but yell HELP!
Devil's in my car!
I'm goin' to Hell in my old Chevrolet,
I don't know which way.
Oh, HELP! Devil's in my car!
Yeah, yeah. He's gone too far.
I won't see ya tomorrow.
I won't see ya anymore.
He's got his cloven hoof on the clutch.
Oh! Ow! I'm sitting on his tail.

Oh-Ohh, I don't wanna go to Hell.
(I don't wanna go to the devil.)
He's in my car, in my car, in my car.

Ohhhh-waaaaahhh!

The radio gives me static,
there's nothing on my CB.
Oh, HELP! the devil's in my car.
Oh, he's in my car. He's in my car.
The devil's in my car.
We're turning off the road.
Oh! Where ya taking me devil?
Oh! He's grinning door to door.
He's got his cloven hoof on the clutch.
HELP ME!
Oh, I don't wanna go to Hell.
(I don't wanna go to the devil.)
He's in my car.

Freeway to Hell.
We're burning up the road.
Freeway to Hell. (Right through the tollbooth)
We're burning up the road.
Freeway to Hell. (Right through the guardrail)
We're burning up the road.
Freeway to Hell. (Across the median)
We're burning up the road.
Freeway to Hell. (Would you slow down?)
We're burning up the road.

I've got the devil juice in my CARburater!
I've got the devil in my cigarette lighter.
I don't need no battery (I got the devil in my car).
In my car. In my car-oh!
In my car
In my car
In my car
In my car
In my car

Something about summer and sunshine screams Go-Go's and B52's to me!
