For me it's definately a "have to be there to love it" sport.

I saw a few World Cup matches, in person, years ago and loved it.
America was already out of it but it didn't matter to me.
I got totally caught up in it: the fans in the stands, the cheering and the drums (there was a lot of drums that day) the excitement when the ball starts to move close to the goal......

But on tv it's is boring.

The Spanish language broadcasts here are better than the English language ones. I don't understand Spanish, but I enjoy listening to the cadence of the announcers voices suddenly speed up as a play develops, and the excitement of a goal made.

Listening to Bob Ley is for me an irritating experience come World Cup time, what with him having to say Italia instead of Italy. He never says Deutchland or Espana. Be consistent, Bob!

What little I know about how Cricket is played came from watching an episode of Are You Being Served. Which means I still don't know anything about it. :P

I'm not positive, but I think you get points by wearing nice shoes.

Which seems silly since you're running around in the grass. The laundry bills must be frightful.

Me niether. Perhaps it would help if I took even the slightest mediocre of interest and tried; but every time I do, I end up falling into coma. It sucks, trust me.

The point of cricket seems to be alcohol. If you're a fan you go out on a nice sunny afternoon and drink ale or cider all day and the missus can't complain because it's cricket.

The point of playing seems to be to get famous enough to get invited to cricket dinners when you're retired, so you can drink all evening and again the missus can't complain because it's cricket
