The warring land - game

Post by hierachy »

Ok, I've had an idea, lets see where it leads...

Here's how it works; I will write a scenario, then anyone who wants to can suggest strategies to take, then I will write what happens following one of those stratagies!

THE BEGGINING:

The Land is in peril, Lord Foul had been gathering an army to lay waste to the people. Warmark Hierachy is trying to formulate a stratagie to conquer - or at least defend against the Despiser and his hordes.

Heres the situation:

5000 of the warward are spread along lands drop, watching for any sign of the Despisers army - they are all on horseback.

A further 15000 warriors are at Revlestone - 4000 horses are available

Nothing is known of the Despisers army at present.

Servants of the land - I implore you to put forward your straegies to overcome the Despiser,

Hmm...I don't see that we can just sit and wait for the Despiser's army to show up, so we need to organise some sort of recon operation. The details will have to wait - I don't have much time at the mo. I'll be back later to rejoin the war council

Yes, the I agree that we cannot simply wait. But also we must not rush our thoughts. The war council will remain open until monday-then we must act!

I say we pull back our forces from Landsdrop. Foul has always kicked our butts there because there are too many ways up from the lower land to defend. Hile Troy noticed that military blunder right away. How about we leave enough far-sighted scouts at the edge of the cliff to spy on Foul’s movements without endangering our vanguard force.

just clarifying something

Post by hierachy »

Hmm... that seems like a logical tactic.
How about we send some of the warriors this would free to seareach-to ask the giants for help; and some to the Plains of Ra, since the warriors are on horseback, this would not take long, and we need all the help we can get to combat Foul.

Unfortunately it may require the presence of a Lord in order to obtain the assistance of the Ramen. They may have to be convinced of the immediate threat posed by Foul’s army. A warhaft’s position may not carry enough weight to force the Ramen to leave theirs homes so I suggest sending at least one Lord and perhaps a few Bloodguard to assist.

All I would say is good luck sending one of the Lords without a Bloodguard escort. They'd never permit it.

Yes it is indeed to riscky to have a lord do this journey unguarded in our current state of peril.

I think we’ve got to be a bit more proactive. Perhaps a small expeditionary force could be sent to the lower land to collect intelligence. There should be a companion group sent to Mount Thunder as well with a relay system to ferry important information to the commands as soon as it is available.

Clearly intelligence and assistance are both necessary for victory. Small detachments of should be sent to the Ramen and the Giants. Ask for Ramen scouts and promise full aid. The Giants can do as they see fit upon contact. March 10000 men out Revelstone with all the horses and available Bloodguard. Split this force into two 5000 man units, one being based closer to Mt. Thunder to watch the wightwarrens and dig in. The other force is concentrated north of Morinmoss and also dig in just west of the river. They should form a line running N to S from the forest to the lonely mt. The 5000 already present should also split into two 2500 man units, one heading toward the Colossus and the other to set traps (ie boulders, logs etc.) anywhere along Landsdrop that it is possible. The Landsdrop force will watch, set off the traps when necessary and flee ahead of a superior force drawing them West toward the hopefully dug in Warward. The Colossus unit will conceal themselves (expecting no army to march near the Colossus) and wait. If Foul's army marches too close to the statue that unit can flee SW toward the Plains of Ra and rejoin the Warward or attack its flank. If not located they may ambush portions of Foul's army or threaten the potentially unprotected lower land. What do you think?

I think that is a well thought out plan, Kin. All we have to do now is wait for Foul to make his next move.

I will amend it slightly. Split the present Landsdrop force into 3000 and 2000 respectively, sending the 2000 to the Colossus. Essentially I am gambling by expecting the force to march north of Morinmoss and probably not enter the forest. If they turn south the Ramen will be prepared and the Warward can march to attack Foul's flank. Depending on the size of the force, 13000 men dug in and waiting for Foul to cross the Black River should be able to stop a superior force. I think.

If we had the time maybe we could send people to destroy the passages from the lower land, forcing Lord Foul to use just a few of them.

A very well thought out plan kin, I think your stratagy is the one to follow.
But as I said before the war council is open until monday; Anyone wishing to suggest amendments to this plan, or rival it with their own is welcome and encouraed to do so - in the war against Foul we need all the help we can get!

As for the current state of our forces, there are some crucal facts I forgot to mention.

... 5 lords are at revlestone, 1 is wit the lands drop forces, each lord is has A rod of communication (along with their staffs)

Considering the Lords, the Lord at Landsdrop should stay with that force to inform the Warward marching with 3 lords (assuming 2 Lords and the High Lord remain at Revelstone ) of the approach of Foul's army. The two main contingents of the Warward will each have a Lord while the 3rd Lord will ride South to the Ramen and then meet the Colossus forces. An eoman can be sent to Seareach as long as its not Hoerkin's.
The Colossus force could be the ace in the hole of my plan. I think.

Ok - we need a backup; what if istead of going directly west the despiser turns north and crosses the defiles course into sarengrave flat before climbing lands drop. That route would take a long time for the despisers army and we would probably see it in time to get our own forces north to meet him; but we would not win in a head on conflict, we need to make plans for the positioning of our forces should the Despiser chose to take this alternative route.

If that's the case, assuming we have ample time to prepare we certainly can't meet him the North Plains superior numbers will win.
Fortunately, Foul can't pillage the Center Plains and harm the majority of the Land. Have to think about this one.

I think I'd try and set some kind of trap as follows. The mounted warward on landsdrop would act as recon, as soon as they saw foul's army they'd ride off into the sunset but not before sending word back to Revelstone. 4000 of the mounted warriors would then leave Revelstone and ride off, away from Foul's forces. A fair size force would then be sent out from Revelstone to spring an ambush on the advancing foe. This would be a feint, intended to fail. The ambushing force would then retreat with all speed to Revelstone (though I grant that not many would survive). This would hopefully lure Foul into advancing to Revelstone before he is ready, or sending his fast units on ahead and thinning out his horde. At some point near to Foul'd arrival at Revelstone he would be hit by the remaining and surviving troops in Revelstone, as well as being outflanked on either side by the two mounted divisions. Timing would be critical, and it has something of a TTT feeling about it.
