Someone to play Bannor and the Blooguard

I've never seen Once Were Warriors, but I know of the film's wife-beating scenes by reputation. I can imagine how such a scene would leave a negative impression about an actor in the mind's eye, unfair though it would be.
Morrison definitely has presence. His screen time was brief in Attack of the Clones, but he still brought a nice dark intensity to what was otherwise a generally torpid Star Wars movie.
I could see Morrison as either Ramen or Haruchai, but if I were casting specifically for the First Chronicles, I'd reserve him as Haruchai. I think he'd be gone to waste as a Ramen, since the male Ramen were (in my mind) minor characters, while the female Ramen had the larger roles. (Yeah, I know screenwriters could simply switch things around, but we're trying more or less to be faithful to the books.)

Yeah, that was kinda my reaction to that statement as well.
Morrison does very well in most of his roles - my only worry about choosing Maori actors to play Haruchai is that most either don't have Tem's presence or are overweight, although a few months intensive training could fix that.

You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.
In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.
He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

Overweight!? Thats a bit harsh Variol. Most of the Maori's i've seen are about 250lbs of solid muscle. They are more often than not casually flipping other large men to one side with an egg shaped ball in their hands.variol son wrote:Yeah, that was kinda my reaction to that statement as well.

It occours to me that for a movie you wouldn't need more than two or three speaking Haruchai. Most would just need to stand around looking tough.

It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.
I didn't even know sheep ate bananas.

You're thinking rugby players Tazz, not actors, and most of them are from various Pacific nations as opposed to being Maori.
You have a point though that only a couple would be needed - for Lord Foul's Bane you could get away with two at a stretch.

Well, maybe we can get some actors to train with the All Blacks.variol son wrote:You're thinking rugby players Tazz, not actors, and most of them are from various Pacific nations as opposed to being Maori.

Might be a good idea - the actors could teach some of the All Blacks to string a sentence together in the process.

Definately, danlo.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I've read this thread on who could play Bannor (and the rest of the Bloodguard) and really agreed with the "Tem Morrison" choice.
He has that stolid appearance and yet can maintain a look of Vulcan-like asceticism.
However I agree with the other posts that are concerned with having enough agreeable "South Pacifics" to fill all the roles. I would not like to see quality visuals for just Bannor, Korik and Tuvor and the rest seem incongruous. We are looking for compact, solid, but not fleshy.
I, too, thought of Native Americans, but was looking a little further south to Central America and South America (Westron Mountains meets Macchu Piccu).
