Hot enough for ya Luci? Wait 'till it starts storming this afternoon.
I'm home from work, gonna take a nap and try to stay awake past 8pm tonight. Assuming I can get up (and it's not storming like crazy), I'll see y'all tonight.

Well, we had a great time tonight! Too tired to write out details right now.
If you want to join us tomorrow, here's the plan: We're meeting at 10:00 am at Union Station (where you sign up for the duck boats) for coffee/breakfast. Then it's off to the monuments for a few hours, and Spamalot at 2 pm for those who have tickets. Dinner at Les Halles sometime after that (if you want to go to dinner and haven't let us know yet, please contact aliantha so she can add you to the head count - we need to make reservations.) After that, who knows?

Definately a good time tonight. Sorry I was run down, but still a good time.

I think I ended up at the wrong bar... I ended up hanging out with a bunch of fans of Robert Jordan from wotmania.com all night...
Heh, yeah, like A said, it was fun. I don't think I can hear anything, anymore, though. Music was loud. But you should have seen A dance! She was really busting a move!
Anyway, yeah, I guess I'll see you all at 10 tomorrow. I may skip out after Spamalot, though, and pass on dinner. (Insert lame excuse about thesis.) Heh...I donno...I guess we'll see how I feel tomorrow. But I may be lame company anyway, heh.
Good to see you all, though. See you tomorrow.-jay

Hope so! I want to hear all about it.Menolly wrote:I'm looking forward to everyone gettng reenergized (and on decent connections) so we can get full, detalied, well pictured, accounts of the weekend.

Another day behind us in DC - we met up for breakfast this morning, and then saw a few sights around the mall, including the new WWII memorial. Aliantha brought her daughters to tag along. Then we headed back to the National Theater for Spamalot. I'm here to tell you, if you love Monty Python, then you'll love Spamalot! I haven't laughed so much in a long time. Lorelei and her friend met up with us at the theater, and it was great to meet her. After that we went to a restaurant called Les Halles (sp?) and enjoyed dinner together, the only problem was it seemed the air conditioning in the restaurant had stopped working about the time we arrived. By the time dinner was over, everyone agreed on our travel arrangements to Romeo's in the morning, and we called it an evening.
The problem with my picture uploading is the pictures are too large. I'll have to edit them to a smaller size when I get home. I do have some great pictures from the restaurant last night. Lucimay took quite a few pics from tonight that we'll have to get her to share.
We got to talk to Fist on the phone today, and that was a real treat. We just passed the phone around so that he got to talk to everyone, including Aliantha's daughters. I tried to call Duchess as well, but I missed her, then when she returned my call, we were about to go into the theater, and everyone split for the evening before I realized that we hadn't called her back. We'll get you sometime tomorrow, Duchess, perhaps from Romeo's.
I'll post another update tomorrow evening.

alrighty then....i'll add MY two cents!!
but i have to start at Friday...
so friday morning i went roaming around the monuments from about ten a.m. to around 1 p.m. i got exceedingly weepy at the Vietnam Memorial...the flowers, the letters to the Fallen...people doing rubbings of names, some just standing with their hands pressed to the wall, vets telling stories to their grandchildren about this lost buddy or that heroic comrade. it was moving just to be there. i watched that war on the evening news every night of my life for years...it was a pilgramage for me, even tho i had no loved ones commemorated there. and then i moved on to the Korean War Memorial. and wept some more. and it was very very hot. in the nineties with EXTREME humidity. i'm so unused to the weather that...
(everybody who's already heard the story stop groaning right now...i must tell it ONE LAST TIME!!) so...i'm so unused to the heat and humidity that by the time i got up to the Washington monument i was starting to get a little bleary-eyed...i wandered around looking for a map of the area and i COULD NOT FIND ONE...so i started to get a little LOST...heh.
then i found a map...but i couldn't locate where i was on it. and i couldn't make heads or tails of it. nothing seemed to make sense, not the street signs, not the map...nothing. so i wandered around a little more (i was starting to get blisters on my tender little feet by this time too, owie!!) sweat is pouring off me and i'm drinking water and drinking water...and finally i saw this guard shack. all the guard shacks around the federal buildings are air conditioned and the guards are ensconced in them. i went over to one of the guard shacks to ask the guard where i was. you see...i couldn't read the map at this point...the letters didn't make sense!!! i couldn't read the street signs either!! and i kept thinking my glasses were dirty or fogged up or something...so i go and tap on the glass of the guard shack...and the guard opens the door and takes one look at me and grabs me by the elbow and says "Uh mam, you need to sit down." and pulls me into the air conditioned guard shack and shuts the door! turns out...i had heat disorientation...or whatever you call it!!!
that's why the map didn't make sense!!! and the street signs!! waaaaaaah!!!! i went wonky for about 10 or 15 minutes!!! (well, it might have been longer but i couldn't read my watch either!!!) SO...i sat there for a few minutes and when i was feeling pretty normal the guard said, "okay...there's a bus stop right around the corner, go and get on the bus." so i did. and when i was halfway back to my hotel, CAIL called me on my cell!!! YAY!!!
so he showed up at my hotel about an hour later and we had a HOOT of a good time chatting with dANdeLION on msn messenger...then Danlo showed up...drove in from NY!! then Creator showed up!!!
YES!!! THERE WERE THREE HIGHLY ATTRACTIVE MEN IN MY HOTEL ROOM AT ONCE!!!
WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!
i can tell you i got some LOOKS from the desk people when we all filed silently out of my room and out the front door to meet up with everybody else at the Clarendon Grill!!!
Aliantha promised to put a copy of Gardens of the Moon on the table at Clarendon Grill as well as a copy of Runes so i would be able to find the table!!
i was pretty hyper from drinking coffee and rolling on the floor laughing my ass off with Cail and dANdeLION!!! Recluce was the first to arrive at Clarendon Grill and she and i hit it off like gangbusters...both of us with what SHE refers to as "caustic" wits...we had a great time "silently judging" all the yuppies at Clarendon Grill!!
Aliantha and Recluce were already there when i arrived with my contingent of men...dlb showed up very soon thereafter...Alynna dropped him off and went to go park and was gone so long that we were about to send out a scouting party but she arrived in the nick of time! the jaymeister showed up as well and BOY IS HE TALL!!!!!
really!!! (of course i'm short which makes him look taller but phew! tall!) i sat there for a long time just staring at Alynna and jay. omg, i'm thinking to myself...THAT'S THEM!! the ADmins!! i was awestricken. they are the awesomest admis EVER!! jay is just as funny live and in person!! Alynna is beautiful and funny and brilliant!! Aliantha is fabulous, generous and funny and lovely!! (more about her fabulous daughters in my next installment tomorrow!! heh) dlbpharmd, mr. tennessee, was of COURSE, wearing tennessee ORANGE!! hah! even the face of his WATCH is ORANGE!!! die-hard.
i won't hold it against him tho! he's too much fun!!! and that southern accent!! girls look out, he's a charmer!!!
danlo is a dream! he brought me Neverness to read!!! and danlo art!! an incredible dragon painting and a photo from yosemite that he took!! and funny!!!
i know you're all going to be very disappointed to hear that i don't think i got a good photo of CAIL'S ASS. *sniff*
it was too dark in the grill by the time i thought to take a picture of it!! Cail is even funnier in person than you can possibly imagine and i sooooo wish i could recount some of the hilarity!! i couldn't possibly do him justice by recounting some of his one-liners and antics but just suffice it to say that he is a riot a minute!!
Creator is my bud and we had already met when he came to San Francisco on business so he has basically been my "babysitter" while i've been here, picking me up for all our events, carting me around, loaning me money when i forgot to go to the ATM, and just generally taking very good care of me!!
well we had a great time just aclimating to one another on friday night. of course i had to tell the story of my "getting the vapors" as my husband called it, to every single person at the table!! *snort*
we laughed and talked as much as we could over the ever-increasing noise of the bar and just about the time the band was ready to come on and play we left! heh. we'd had enough of yelling our jokes out at each other!!
i will continue the saga tomorrow with today's events,,,in which we saw spamalot and met up with lorelei and aliantha's daughters!!
stay tuned folks!!

Crap! Everything sounds like a blast (except for Luci's heatstroke). Good thing you found that guard shack girl. You might have ended up face down on the sidewalk. *shudders* My wife has fainted a few times and the times I wasn't there to catch her have been really terrible.
I wish I could have been there with you all. DC is a heck of a lot closer than out west. Kind of a shame. Plus I've never been to DC. The idea of visiting the Smithsonian Air and Space museum is a dream I've had since I was a kid.
It would be great to finally meet all of you. The only Watchers I see are dANdeLION, Lord Absinth and Prorider514. All are friends and family. I've never so much as talked with any of you over the phone. I guess I'm just too dang shy. Oh well. Maybe next time folks.

Yes, it was fantastic talking to everyone!!!
Thanks dlb!!! I'd never spoken to Jay, Alynna, Creator, or aliantha before. Much less ali's daughters!
They were good sports about it, though. I can imagine if I was them - "Who the #$%^ is this dope on the phone I'm trying to make small-talk with? When will it end?!" And it's always great talking to Lucimay, danlo, and dlb.
Sometimes I don't follow things too well, and don't plan things too well, and so, to my deep regret, I'm not with all of you now. But I'm extremely happy that another 'fest is taking place, and the best site on the internet (I'm referring to the Watch) is going strong!!
