QUESTIONS REGARDING (MAINLY) THE FIRST CHRONICLES

Post by aTOMiC »

A variety of questions:

1. Were the Giants unhomed deliberately by the Elohim?
2. Was Hile Troy’s mental sight what every resident of the Land possesses? or Is the gift of earthsight one that is perceived mentally instead of through eye sight? If so why wouldn’t a person be able to see 360 degrees?
3. Could Mhoram’s talent for prophecy have been a gift from Lord Foul?
4. As useful and dreaded as they are, why wouldn’t Lord Foul have caused more griffins to be created? What has happened to the griffins since the First Chrons?
5. Where are the “Little People” in the Chrons? No dwarf type characters?
6. Can Foamfollower beat up Hercules?
7. Is it possible that Lord Foul may have been influencing events in the real world from the beginning? Covenant’s leprosy, divorce, fear of horses, inspiration to write a bestseller etc?
8. Is it possible that Covenant had a higher Midichlorian count than Mhoram?
9. Are events in the Land directly associated with events in the Real world? Example: The Ritual of Desecration happened at the exact moment that TC and Joan conceived Roger.
10. How many Megatons would the Ritual of Desecration equal in real world terms? 10 megatons, 40 megatons, 100 megatons, googolplex megatons.
11. Are there aliens in the outer space of the Land?
12. Are the Chronicles helped or hurt by the absence of Dragons?
13. Given the obvious similarities between the translation of Dorothy to the land of OZ (rendered unconscious and translated to a fanciful world until revival) and that of Thomas Covenant to the Land would it not be interesting if (following the analogy) the people that TC encounters in the Land bear a striking resemblance to people he knew or subconsciously knew in the real world? Mhoram looks hauntingly similar to the guy that cuts the neighbor’s lawn. Lord Foul is a dead ringer for the town’s shady mayor. Etc.

Were the Giants unhomed deliberately by the Elohim?
Interesting question, I'd like to say no, but maybe the Elohim didn't want the Giants at Home to know of their existence...
Was Hile Troy’s mental sight what every resident of the Land possesses? or Is the gift of earthsight one that is perceived mentally instead of through eye sight? If so why wouldn’t a person be able to see 360 degrees? Yes, yes and perhaps the brain can't handle 360 processing-I'd get dizzy :P Could Mhoram’s talent for prophecy have been a gift from Lord Foul? Give earthpower and servants a little credit...
As useful and dreaded as they are, why wouldn’t Lord Foul have caused more griffins to be created? What has happened to the griffins since the First Chrons? Perhaps griffins can only survive during nomal Land conditions? Where are the “Little People” in the Chrons? No dwarf type characters? (1)The jheherrin were little mistakes (2) Thank god! :P
Can Foamfollower beat up Hercules? The Olympic pantheon can't breach the Arch of Time. Is it possible that Lord Foul may have been influencing events in the real world from the beginning? Covenant’s leprosy, divorce, fear of horses, inspiration to write a bestseller etc? No Is it possible that Covenant had a higher Midichlorian count than Mhoram?
This is some kind of Star Wars thingy I can't understand :P

The Giants were not unhomed; they had the Coercri, didn't they?
aTOMiC wrote:Was Hile Troy’s mental sight what every resident of the Land possesses?

Only the ones without eyes.
aTOMiC wrote:Is the gift of earthsight one that is perceived mentally instead of through eye sight?

All perception is mentally done, so, yes.
aTOMiC wrote:If so why wouldn’t a person be able to see 360 degrees?
So, you think Earthsight should be like Cosmic awareness?
aTOMiC wrote:Could Mhoram’s talent for prophecy have been a gift from Lord Foul?
No, Foul took Mhoram off his gift list after the battle of Soaring Woodhelven.
aTOMiC wrote:As useful and dreaded as they are, why wouldn’t Lord Foul have caused more griffins to be created?

SRD's contract with the Griffins ended when he realized that Merv Griffen was in fact a gay man.
aTOMiC wrote:What has happened to the griffins since the First Chrons?
They moved to a timeshare on an island off the eastern coast of Nunyadamnbusiness.
aTOMiC wrote:Where are the “Little People” in the Chrons? No dwarf type characters?
Not true....the average Harucai is 27" tall.
aTOMiC wrote:Can Foamfollower beat up Hercules?
Yeah, if he has a white gold ring....
aTOMiC wrote:Is it possible that Lord Foul may have been influencing events in the real world from the beginning?

No, because, as SRD said, the real world is also fictitious.
aTOMiC wrote:Covenant’s leprosy, divorce, fear of horses, inspiration to write a bestseller etc?
No, I don't think his bestseller had anything to do with his fear of divorced leprous equines.
aTOMiC wrote:Is it possible that Covenant had a higher Midichlorian count than Mhoram?

Yes, seeing as how Mhoram has a father, but Thomas does not.

Dan mentioned the Jheherrin as well. Not really what I had in mind. I was thinking more along the lines of a natural race of diminutive stature. Dan also suggested that the Haruchai are kinda short. :-)

dAN mentioned it, I can't see that! Oh that's right you're both on at the same time and probably in the same room. Not fair (I plead the Fla-NM time delay defense-and dAN I've got your Null right here! (btw you double posted) 8O )

and again: Thank god! :P It's too early in the morning for me to be tag-teamed by a couple of characters from Xanth! 8) BACK I SAY! :trout:

My Input:
1. Were the Giants unhomed deliberately by the Elohim?
I dont see any evidence for this, merely conjecture. I cannot fathom a reason for this, but when did elohim need reasons?
2. Was Hile Troy’s mental sight what every resident of the Land possesses? or Is the gift of earthsight one that is perceived mentally instead of through eye sight? If so why wouldn’t a person be able to see 360 degrees?
I think it was more, a gift. Mhoram and Kevin were oracles, and other Lords had other abilities that most people did not. I think Hile's sight was a gift due to his inherent lack of physical sight that possibly enabled the manifestation of more potent sight in him that others would lack. Perhaps people crippled with lhysical sight had no access to this ... It is ironic that, despite his great sight, he was unable to foresee the size and deployment of Foul's army and the implications of breaking the Law of Life.
3. Could Mhoram’s talent for prophecy have been a gift from Lord Foul?
This is an interesting question; Foul was able to put his instructions into Covenant's mind as a compulsion on his first visit, but this is the only instance I know of Foul being able to change someone. I really do not think so; There is no evidence that Mhoram's oracular gift was any different than Kevin's, and I think Kevin's gift preceded Foul's lordship. Again, ironic Kevin couldnt see Foul's intention.
4. As useful and dreaded as they are, why wouldn’t Lord Foul have caused more griffins to be created? What has happened to the griffins since the First Chrons?
You know, this has bothered me; There isnt much about them, except in Manethrall Rue's report, and a few other times. I dont know, it was either oversight on SRD's part or something similar.
5. Where are the “Little People” in the Chrons? No dwarf type characters?
I guess the Jherrin and Su-Jherrin could be 'nasty little dwarves or some-such..?
6. Can Foamfollower beat up Hercules?
While also eating a sandwich and reciting the long version of Thema Twofist in elvish.
7. Is it possible that Lord Foul may have been influencing events in the real world from the beginning? Covenant’s leprosy, divorce, fear of horses, inspiration to write a bestseller etc?
I think Covenant's leprosy and related events were naturally occurring; Foul's involvement came after Coveant was chosen by the creator.
8. Is it possible that Covenant had a higher Midichlorian count than Mhoram?
The force is strong with that one :)
9. Are events in the Land directly associated with events in the Real world? Example: The Ritual of Desecration happened at the exact moment that TC and Joan conceived Roger.
I think that Covenat caused the Land to be created in some way, and that events in his life coincided with events in the Land. Not too sure about The example given, though.
10. How many Megatons would the Ritual of Desecration equal in real world terms? 10 megatons, 40 megatons, 100 megatons, googolplex megatons.
11. Are there aliens in the outer space of the Land?
Well, we dont even know if there are aliens in the outer space of our land, or covenant's. Might as well ask about toast? do they eat toast in the Land? What about Jam? Is there Jam? and Hangnails? and boogers? Astral Projection? Land Foreclosures? License fees? what else?

First, yall totally redeemed my morning. Thanks.

Second, I have some questions as well...

Is Vain's awesomness intentional, or is naturally just that good?

If Covenant gets Linten pregnant, will there be tabloids throughout the Land discussing her "baby bump"?

If Pitchwife gets the First preggers... do Giants GET baby bumps?

Findail makes me want to kick him and his people in the teeth. Is this a natural reaction or should I seek counseling?

(all the serious questions I could think of would lead to spoilers for me... so... I'll read and find out :D )

On this one point something occurs to me. At what point did the Creator choose Covenant? Couldn't it have happened at just about any time? If he's the Creator he might have seen the need for Covenant's selection a split second after his world came into being. (Whenever that was.) :-)

You need therapy, and I'd be glad to provide it for you, but there is a risk that after said therapy you'd be the one with a baby bump.

I think you have enough kids already, Lion. :P

And I'm alergic to kids. And baby bumps. And everything else even remotely related to children.

AND there are preventative measures that can be taken to prevent baby bumps... say for instance, me NOT seeking therapy with you ;)

1) For all I know, you're one of my kids.

2) that would mean you are allergic to yourself.

3) don't want therapy, eh? Ok, fine. As long as all the rest of the Watch ladies love me, I'll be alright.

I never would have guessed this thread would have headed down this sort of path.

Did you know Southerland Castle was a space ship?
