I got a handle on the trees and the shop, but then the castle doesn't max out. *sigh*

You need to make sure you get the castle in pretty early. There are some things that level up to their maximum almost instantly, and the castle isn't one of them.

the trees are what took me ages. They have to be introduced at precisely the right time.
It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.

I didn't even know sheep ate bananas.

Yep. Fortunately the trees didn't take me that long. It was one of those "Hm, what should I do...maybe...THIS" moments, where the answer is just there in your head.
