We never met, but I welcome you back all the same. Your reputation precedes you. 8)
The last time someone told me this it was an euphemism for "You're a repeat offender, sir!". :P
The Watch got hacked at the beginning of the year, which accounts for this new version of the board we're using.
Stupid script kiddies got nothing better to do? :(
Supposedly it's more secure. The white gold dollar system and all the old album pics were among the features that got lost when we switched. It was felt that it wasn't worth the trouble to re-implement the WGD system, since it had become a bit of a joke, anyway. Due to a glitch in the casino that allowed hideous sums of WGDs to be won overnight, the currency was rendered valueless. (At least that's my understanding.)
So Vain didn't learn from the times when he ruined the economy of small south american countries, and repeated it here? Darn, you can't trust the man with money. :P
Well, saddens me to say it, but Skyweir is apparently gone from the Watch for good. Others have come and gone, sometimes in a huff. And we know of at least one Watcher who has passed away: ShadowLurker, who joined in Dec '03 and contributed to our dissection of The Wounded Land before AIDS claimed his life. Sorry to be a bearer of sad tidings.
Sad tidings indeed. I obviously didn't knew him, but it still is sad to hear, and my heart goes out to all those who did.

Is anyone still in touch with Skyweir?
Yeah, he's in the middle of some minor project called the Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. You may have heard of it.
It didn't fully escape my notice. ;) I'm still trying to make up my mind what will be harder to take, reading Runes soon and the others when they come out and suffer those years of waiting in between, or go for the big wait and not read them at all before they're all available. Getting it in one huge all-in-one dosage for the first time will make it a more impressive experience, I think, but ah, the curiousity...

Really, they could just have stopped recruiting after they got us three. It could only go downhill from there. ;)
Dromond wrote:Welcome back, I may be wrong, but I thought one of your last posts related to an illness or health issue that would keep you away for awhile...I feared the worst after a year or so!
Yes, my disappearance was (among other things) related to some health problems of mine, but I'm much better by now, no need to worry. Sorry I gave you reason to. :)

So... I don't think KW was the "official" forum three years ago already, how did we earn that honor?

SRD didn't even have his own site back then. But when RotE was nearing being published, the publisher figured he should have one.

Running parallel to these events, our own Romeo got to know SRD because he attends every fantasy convention in this hemisphere. So many, in fact, that SRD (and the combination of awe and envy make it nearly impossible to type this) asked Romeo to be a proofreader for Runes!!! 8O 8O 8O If you check the beginning of the book, the Acknowledgements page says:
SRD wrote:My particular thanks to John Eccker, who went "above and beyond the call" after the first draft and never looked back.
Yup, John is Romeo.

*shivering and gathering strength*

Anyway, Romeo is also SRD's webmaster.

Well well...Sevothtarte. Welcome back, sir. Our paths never crossed that much, but the return of a familiar face and name is always welcome. Well, usually. There are exceptions.

But rejoice, for you are not one of the exceptions!

It seems to me that SRD or the aforementioned webmaster Romeo realised there was no point in creating a new forum on his site when there's already a well-established one here. Jay was approached, the matter was discussed here, and the "aye" was given.

Hail Sevothtarte! :D

I joined shortly after you left the Watch, but I feel I know you because when I first came on almost 3 years ago, I read and read as many posts as I could (The Watch was alot smaller then), and I always enjoyed yours.

It's great to have you back!!

Also, if you would like to get to know Shadowlurker, you can check out the thread I created in memory of my brother Stephen McKinney in the Hall of Gifts. It was thru that thread that Shadowlurker came to be with us. His is a story of great hope and love. He touched alot of people here.

Hope to get to know you! Welcome back!! :hearts:
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

Thanks a lot (to everyone I failed to individually respond to too ). :) Through hidden ways 8) I got filled in on some of the things I missed, and I've already partly read your thread on Stephen and Shadowlurker's posts. Looking forward to getting to know you too. :)
