Don't Pluto and Neptune cross paths during eachothers orbit? I ws under the impression that the switch lasts for about 7 Earth Years.

How often do the orbits of Neptune and Pluto cross?
On JAnuary 21, 1979 Pluto passed inside the orbit of Neptune, and on September 5, 1989 it was at its closest distance to the Sun. Then in March, 1999 it will cross Neptune's orbit once again and resume its title as the farthest planet in the solar system. This situation will reoccur in the year 2236 and happens every 247 years.

Neptune: 164.8 years
Pluto: 248.5 years

It's like that thing where that soap opera chick won Dancing with the Stars, but then they redid the finale and gave it to Elaine's boss from Seinfeld. Cruel, just cruel. What's this going to do to Pluto's self esteem?

No. No. Je sui, je reste. It's an injustice, plain and simple - and doesn't even take into account all the planetarium docents who've grown old talking about Pluto and will have to relearn their monolgues in what should have been the restful golden twilight of their careers.
