i laughed raucously all through the film .. and cried i laughed so hard .. when 'pedal to the metal' guy taxi'd the ship out of the docking bay ..
sccrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaappppppppppppppeeeeee ... it was like the scape was never gonna end .. i couldnt stand it .. i was doubled over .. it was sooo funny!!
i can watch it over and over again .. and still love every bit of it ..
like when the 'termites' come to Tim Allen's home .. and he is looking for his other shoe .. oh my gosh!! its a killer ..

I enjoyed the original series, the Next Generation (until the last few seasons), about half of the movies (mostly the even-numbered ones), Deep Space 9, and some of Voyager; but I wouldn't call myself a fan. I was a fan until they didn't use Kirsty Alley in "The Search For Spock". I haven't yet watched an episode of the new Trek show. Nowadays I prefer watching Shattner doing Shakespheare.

After reading the preceding posts I’m almost embarrassed to admit the extent of my Star Trek fandom. Original series – Impressed upon my synaptic relays for all time. Good and bad episodes, don’t care. I have nearly all the episodes on tape in one form or another. Favorite single episode – City on the Edge of Forever. I unabashedly continue to replay them over and over and over and over and over…
Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Thrilled me when it first hit the theater. Since then I’ve tolerated it’s pale gray set design, stiff acting and arduous reactionary shots of crew members marveling over the sight of V’ger. Wahoo.
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan – Star Trek at its finest. It baffles me why this film hasn’t been the template for ST ever since. Go figure.
Star Trek: The Search for Spock – Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon Commander. The bright spot of the film.
Star Trek: The Voyager Home – “There be whales here!” Kirk holding the pizza box on its side is brilliant acting and hilarious. “One damn minute Admiral.”
Star Trek: The Next Generation- Star Trek is back on tv. I remember vividly, watching Encounter At Far Point thinking. “Its not horrible.” I watched nearly every episode of TNG for the entire 7 years. My biggest complaint was that I’d seen quite enough of Deanna’s mother.
Star Trek: The Final Frontier – I watched this film in absolute horror. I still think that it must have been a bad dream. The high point was when Scotty clobbered himself on a bulkead. Nice job, Bill.
Star Trek: DS9 – Cool set. It took me a while to get used to the weak opening music. Gritty by Star Trek standards. Some of the most exciting space battle scenes ever. Watched it all, even when the primary plot thread involved a holographic lounge singer. (See what a dedicated fan I am.)
Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country – Almost really good. Klingons spouting Shakespeare? Huh? Captain Sulu was cool. Spock’s mind rip was down right creepy. The Praxis shockwave hitting Excelsior is one of my all time favorite scenes. Turn up the surround sound.
Star Trek: Generations – The Captain’s on the bridge the bridge is on the Captain. Kirk should’ve stayed dead. Watching him being crushed like a bug was very disappointing.
Star Trek: Voyager – I really wanted to like this program. I’ve even written a few fan fics from this series. 7 of 9. I’m a guy. How could I NOT notice her uniform. Especially the silver one. Thank God they finally made it home. Enough already. The Kazon?
Star Trek: First Contact – I really enjoyed this film. Pretty cool. The Borg. Time Travel. The Enterprise E charging into battle against the Borg cube was tremendous.
Star Trek: Insurrection – Yawn.
Star Trek: Enterprise – I thought I’d like to see the development of Federation technology. The first use of photon torpedoes. The first Federation / Romulan war. “There was no quarter, no two-way visual communication.” So far I’m still waiting to be sufficiently impressed. Yes, I am watching.
Star Trek: Nemesis – Should have been good. Just wasn’t.

I wonder how my life would be if I looked like 7of9. Probably very different. I love Next generation (Data´s day is hilarious) and Voyager after 7of9 came abord. I have not seen all the original shows (still looking for one episode called Troubles with Tribbles - or something like that, what I have heard, it should be very funny), I have found most of them a little bit slow, on the brink of boring. I have not found DS9 very entertaining. The one line I liked from the first season of Enterprise was "It´s a Klingot", otherwise I thought it was a bit slow (simular to the OS).
First contact however: one of my favorite films! It has everything! Everybody is at their best! I can even stand Riker (especially since he directed it)!

Hoom. I find myself always going for the comic parts of everything (I suppose I got stuck with SRD to get a different perspective on life?). Star Trek is not that funny, it tries very hard to be serious. One could almost say it is serious (at least it always has this classical sensmoral in the end of each episode ) I saw an interview with Patric Steward where he said he wished that Next Gen would have been more like Red Dwarf...
I wonder what that would have been like! Perhaps a bit like as if I had had the body of 7of9

I loved the original series, TNG, and most of the movies. I never could get in to DS9 though, and I've never seen any of the (2?) other series. Probably because I went for 10 years without TV.

It's strange that I seem to agree w/alot of what Clearfrontier says, but City on the Edge of Forever IS the best of the Original Star Trek! Ellison ROCKS!
And anybody's who's seen him on SNL knows that Stewart can do comedy... looks like he'll be on Frasier this week (saw the commercial), if anybody's interested. I gather he's playing a gay man hitting on Frasier. For some reason, this role reminds me of a film with Patrick Stewart (non Trek), but I can't place it.

Sometimes I want to sue Star Trek for false advertising. Some guys look to famous athletes, others to famous movie stars... I've always looked up to Picard, Riker, LaForge, etc (Kirk was before my time, though I can still identify with the guys in Free Enterprise).
Trek tells you that if you're smart, conscientous, and do the right thing, everything turns out ok. I dunno... just paints everything way too bright, especially the future.
I think Dante Hicks said it best. "Empire had the better ending. Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father. Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. That's what life is; a series of down endings. All Jedi had was a bunch of muppets."
Cross metaphor, I know, but what I'm saying is that as much as I dig Trek, I find myself turning to the darker stuff (Farscape anyone?). Enterprise, imo, is the worst of everything. Ignorant, naive, willfully blind, sanctimonious SOBs all of 'em. The Vulcans are painted as these repressive, repressed, disproving school marms, but they're right. Human beings collectively are bunch of nincompoops.

If you want to hear more of Nimoy you can always buy the record he did together with Shatner: Spaced out! Nimoy can sing. Shatner cannot (but do a lovely Mr Tambourine Man anyway...
