Larps inspired by TCTC
I have since several years on occation attended a (swedish) LARP-campaign which has become more and more inspired by TCTC. It is fashinating when you live through battles of good and evil (and this is, like Foul, an evil on a more psychological level, not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run-of-the-mill, ho-hum Evil, evil), where you cannot fight evil with its own weapons but must find brand new solutions. Two examples: A few years ago the creatures of the forests/earth/night/mist managed to break their Law, personified as The Hunter, which led to years of confusion and these strange creatures doing things they should not (harrasing the humans and other life forms, roaming the world) but also leaving the creatures un-immune to the "Lord Foul" of this world. The breaking of a fundamental Law did have consequences no one could have forseen. An attempt by human kings to purify one of "Lord Fouls" powersources by making a human sacrifice using a "Foul-tainted" sword backfired immediately (the dead elven king (a bit Elena-like acctually) who was supposed to be on "the good side" raised his voice in a horrible "Hail Lord Foul"). This breaking of the Law of Death had ofcourse also unpleasant consequences, but I am still convinced it will be possible to turn some of it to "good". I find it is a mixed feeling to recognise TCTC in an other place than in the books.
Is there anyone else who have met TCTC in an other form, and if so, what did you like it?

I did some Vampire: The Masquerade when I was about 18 in Monterey, CA. I could never really get into it. It was a cool way to meet goth girls, though.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

M'man Syl!!!

Never heard of LARP myself. And I lost track immediately in the pictures thread. But I did see the name "Vidar" in there! One of my favorite Viking gods!
But I don't suppose there's any connection.

I havn't tried Vampire, but many of my friends have. They say they liked it, though many years have passed since they were a part of it.
I do larp now though, in a group known as NERO. I would suggest, if you like or want to try larping, you check out their websites, either www.nerolarp.com for the international site, or www.nerowest.com if you live in CA.

Guess I'd better come clean about this...
I'm an inveterate LARPer, as well. Actually, I'm one of the two main gamemasters behind the campaign Ylva Kresh mentions in her first post.
In fact, a couple of years ago I wrote a fairly lengthy account/story of "Thule in Flames", the adventure that started off the campaign on its current track and which, incidentally, has been the most Donaldsonesque of the events so far. Reading this forum inspired me to start translating this story into English.
Now, I'm wondering... if I were to post the story here in installments, would anyone be interested in reading it? It might not be great literature (although I've tried my best), but it's been considered a pretty engaging story by several people, not all of whom were actually in the LARP, and as I've hinted I imagine Donaldson fans might find it interesting (Ylva Kresh did, anyway
), since some of its themes were inspired by my then-recent first reading of the First and Second Chronicles.
The thing is, it's pretty long. All together, it probably runs to some 15-20 pages. I will of course break it up into small installments, but how long is the "pain threshold" for each part?

LARPing is fun, apparently. I've not yet been to any of the events here in Britain, but I've been to a couple of group practices, and I had a blast. Running around twatting people with big latex swords and axes. Very fun! There's one group from Dublin called "Armengar" that base themselves around the mountain tribe in "Darkness at Sethanon". Sounds damn fun, that! An entire population mobilised for military action!

Sure, post away!
