As I'm sure you would all agree from seeing my picture posted in the DC Elohimfest topic, I would be perfect to play a Haruchai.-jay

You look more like a Woodhelvin to me..you'd just have to add a few 'L''s in you're name.

Perhaps. Why not the cat from Crouching Tiger though? He has more of a regal air about him.

I have a hard time with all these asian actors. I never pictured the bloodguard as asian. Just makes it hard for them to fit in for me now. :)

Chow would've been perfect, but he's too old now.

Brown skinned, flat faced, dark curly hair....

I just don't see Hugh for the part... Not that I don't like him! He's great, makes a rad Wolvy, but... he just ain't "my" Bannor.

I like the suggestions of some southern americans or Maori. (as long as they're not making faces.)

I guess most people get the asian look from the flat face bit, I never painted that picture, but heck I had Kevin's Watch all wrong in my head for years :)

Agian, I don't remember any reference to their angeled eyes or high cheek bones. Could be my bad as it's Friday at work and I just want to go home.

I don't think they were ever described as having either angled eyes OR high cheekbones, but I could be wrong.

Its because they are African not Asian. :)

I dunno, I don't see them as African either. Once again, that's just me... but he said brown skin, not "dark" I know that it's just semantics, and that Africans (in general) ARE brown... but I never pictured them as bloodguard. That could be cause as far as I'm aware most native Africans are taller and lean, and Haruchi are shorter and stocky.

Has anyone asked SRD what ethnicity he's pictured the Haruchi as on the GI?

There were a few drawings in Gilden-Fire; I think one was of a bloodguard. I would assume that fits with SRD's vision of them.

Yes, and this was SRD's reply:
I imagine it's obvious that I had a vaguely Southeast Asian "type" in mind. As I think I explained much earlier in this interview, when I planned the first "Covenant" trilogy I concentrated on "roles" rather than on "characters": I knew what, say, Giants or Bloodguard or Ramen were going to do, but I didn't necessarily know what they were like; I discovered their character(s) as I wrote. (Incidentally, as I've also explained, I no longer work that way.) Well, when all you have is a "role," sometimes you need more to help you discover the "character." And at that time (the early 70's), I had the vague--if false--idea that martial arts existed as a Southeast Asian phenomenon. So I started there.
But I still don't see the Haruchai as Asian in my mind.
