Actually, this is only the third time a stingray sting has resulted in death. I'm just glad Irwin wasn't holding his boy in front of him this time.

:2c: I recommend you shop around for a good quality camera with some nice features that doesn't cost too much.

Actually the two I'm looking at are the canon A610, or SD450 because it's smaller, and a Kodak V570... :) We'll see. It will be a while before I have the money.

Sorry about your loss, Waddley. I'm saving up for a good digicam as well. I've been scouring camera reviews, and the Canon A610 seems to be one of the best consumer cameras in its class. Almost all the other models in the Canon Powershot line have gotten excellent ratings, too. You should be able to find the A610 at discount prices, since it's now been superseded by the A700 models.

dAN and danlo...one of the reviews I came across gave sample pics which showed that the Nikon Coolpix had some difficulty focusing in poor light or indoors. Don't recall if it was the L4 or another model. Have you guys had any trouble with your Nikon in poor light? Mind you, the reviewer was testing the unit in extreme conditions - near total darkness. However, the poor light didn't bother the Canon.

Sorry for babbling on...

I have the 3100, which may be an older model; I sometimes get blurry pics, but nothing related to lighting that I can tell.

Check on www.cnet.com Good technical reviews and there's user opinions as well. The Canons generally review well, not so much for the Nikons (odd, since Nikon makes one of the best film SLRs available).

Good site Cail, thanks :)

What kind of memory does the cannon use? My last camera I had a gig stick (sobbing now for all the lost pictures... that thing was FULL) Does anyone have an idea of what an equivilant size card on a cannon would be?

Waddley...I have a Powershot A250 and I have gotten lots of good pix. Circuit City used to have a bundle with the photo printer, but I don't know what they have now.

What pics are you referring to? I've taken plenty of pics of my kids with my camera, and have even posted some here.

I feel like dancing!! The idoit who keeps screwing with my instruments is going to get the boot soon!!! I know that I shouldn't be joyous in other's failures but I will be so relieved to walk in to the office and not have to worry about my instruments being messed up!!! (Oh yeah and she potentially screwed up another one last night - could have ruined a $5000.00 part though I won't know until I attempt to run a sample)
