I've just watched the first three episodes of Witch Hunter Robin. I'm quite enjoying it so far, though I do have to keep reminding myself Robin's meant to be fifteen. Twenty-seven is more like it.

Waddley: if you like Witch Hunter Robin, you might (might, don't hold me to it) enjoy Hellsing. Vaguely similar premise, with a better theme tune and bad English accents. Heh.

Yeah, I've seen bits of Hellsing here and there. I don't think I've ever watched a complete episode, though, so I dont' have a real opinion of it. I'll look into renting it. Thanks Covenant!

It's only a short series, 13 episodes I think. Apparently it was cut short due to unexpected budget reduction.

There is, according to the grapevine, a second series of Hellsing in the pipeline though. That could be very good news indeed.

As an aside, Alucard from Hellsing uttered one of my favourite lines of recent years. I'm not telling you what it is though.

Still further aside, most of the members who speak to me address me as CJ. It's easier to type than the full name.

What about Vampire Hunter D? I actually own this movie, but haven't watched it yet. Anyone know anything about it?

The second one (Bloodlust) rocks in every way. My favorite thing about it is the art it's self, it's a very very beautiful anime. Everything else is good too. (Story, acting, music) Watch it.

The first one is alright. I have no strong opinion about it either way.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is indeed good. Really, it's what the first VHD should have been, plus it (along with several other animes, for some reason) features the voice of Dwight "Murdoch" Schultz. The first is less competent in every way, but still has a certain charm. In fact, it's a little like a western, in structure as well as setting.

I don't get you guys who watch it dubbed. Like drinking decaffeinated coffee. I'll take a bad sub over a good dub any day.

(disclaimer, the dub for Howl's Moving Castle was pretty good, though I still watched most of it subbed)

My cheap DVD player has a habit of displaying the subs even when I'm watching the dub. It takes a bit of getting used to, but on the positive side it does enable me to contrast the two. Most of the time, the subs are pretty poor, IMO. Having said that, I own a sub-only copy of Fate/Stay Night and I wouldn't have it any other way. Hmm.

I've known so many snooty-ass people who would look down on anyone who would dare watch anime dubbed that part of me wants to watch dubbed out of spite.

The rest of me is lazy. And also, there's the fact that the number one thing I look for in anime is quality in animation, and how can I be noticing all the little details when I have to read everything that's going on?

But that's just me. And I'm a snooty-ass myself.

Wellllll... also have to factor in the fact that I've watched 90% of my anime from dl'd files, fansubs and the like. The other 10% (maybe less) was a decade ago when the dubbing was so attrocious it should've been outlawed. Guess I'm just used to it. That, and I took Japanese 101 in... *does some math*... '94 and really liked the language (the one I know the least but to this day admire the most).

Kind of off-topic, but I will say that the Hebrew version of Aladdin was surprisingly good.

I looked more closely, and what I have is "Vampire Hunter D collection." I don't know if that is a good one to have or not.

I am very lucky in that we have a game store that buys/sells used anime. I think I picked this up for less than $10. I've had good luck with everything I've gotten so far, except when I bought The Twelve Kingdoms. It was beautifully animated, but the story sucked so bad that I couldn't get past the second episode.

Yeah, I watch everything in their original subtitles (from anime to Kurosawa flicks) . Only two exceptions are: Howl's Moving Castle and Cowboy Bebop. Just love the English work on those. Then again: also like the dub for Whisper of the Heart.

I've Googled it, and I think it's a bumper version of the first film. Well, you'll know soon enough anyway.

My one and only OWNED anime is the great AKIRA. I had the (Battle or someting) Overlord, for a while, but was shocked to see all the s*x in it. Cartoons doing it is not my thing.

My brother is learning Japanese, actulally, he's enrolled in Japanese II at the H.S., but over the summer, it seems he self taught himself almost everything he's going to learn in this years class. Im even picking up the basic words and syntax. Its not too difficult, the only problem I have with it is reading the language. Thats just blows my mind. Too many squiggles.

Yes, I hear that the kanji is difficult. I've picked up a few words just from watching anime and reading manga. I don't know how useful they are, but still. . .
