Amazing Race 10

Post by High Lord Tolkien »

Anyone catch the Amazing Race last night?
I love this show.

Hopefully this 1st post of mine won't sound like a Think Tank post.

It was the first show of the season and all the two person teams were getting to know one another as they met at certain points.
There was a team with two American muslims who at the very beginning said that they would be playing the game but adhere to thier muslim faith, so they would pray 4 times a day no matter what was one of the examples they mentioned.
I thought, ok, this could be interesting.

But, not half way into the show they meet up with another group, who were men, and shake hands in a warm greeting with them.
Shortly after that they meet up with another team, who were women and they refused to shake their hands! He said it was against his religion.

So there we had probably the first example to view, on mainstream American tv, 2 openly muslim men and that is shining example of what we get.

In the course of the game they were the 1st team to be eliminated.
I'm glad they are gone but it would have been interesting to see them interact with the others as they traveled around the world.

It looks like an interesting batch of contestants this time too.
Although nothing was better than the season that had Jonathan and Victoria screaming at each other. "VICTORIA!!!!!!"
(I still yell that out to my wife when we watch this show.)

And the casting must have been done with me in mind.
One team has two blonde beauty contestants, both Miss and Miss "something" and another team is with two cheerleader hotties!

Yeah and I guess there are some cute guys too, or so I was told.
Oh and of course, the token gay couple.
(they really need to find two normal acting gay guys for this show sometime)

So far so good I think.

My wife loves this show. I am Ok with it, but somewhat indifferent...I feel they edit too much to create a greater sense of urgency, and I think that the bunching up of contestants is unfortunate. Ah well.

I got turned on to this show a few seasons ago and now I am addicted. I was kind of put off by the woman with the artificial leg. I thought she was doing this race in part to show that disabled people are capable of competing with everyone else, but then she uses her disability to board the plane early and get a taxi and laughs as she and her partner talk about how they can take advantage of her disability to get ahead. All's fair in this game, but I think her actions reflect poorly on disabled people.

I've watched this show for a few seasons myself and have seen many instances of people portraying themselves as nicer than they are. More power to her.

As long as these people don't clamber over others in the same manner in real-life I'm OK with it.

I did have a problem with "Rob & Amber" (the couple who had previously won Survivor) blithely driving past another team's car-smash in which people had been injured a season or two ago.

Although I am sure that there was an armada of support vehicles around, that was disgusting indifference. I was so glad when they lost.

So my Cheerleaders were eliminated last week and the Father/Daughter team was bumped this week.

Thank God they wouldn't let the teams beg for money this leg.
I hated that in the past seasons.

The coalminer seemed a little obsessed with being in Vietnam, it was a little annoying but whatever.

I don't think I would have stopped like the brothers did at John McCains flight suit. A race is a race damn-it! But it was nice to see them come in first on that leg.

I'd say that the gay guys are like watching two 13 year old girls but I don't want to insult 13 year old girls.

The "Barbies". (that just cracks me up).

I like the couple that are dating! Nothing better than seeing a team break apart in flames! I love it. I just hope it's real and not creative editing!

I like the two Moms and the brothers.
They're my two picks to win.
The two model guys and the Barbies seem pretty cool too.

It's a good group this season.
Usually I hate everybody.

My wife loves and watches this show, and I catch it occassoionally. The one thing I think is that when one goes to a place where something truly bad or inspiring happened, one should stop and take a moment to consider the event within the context of your own existence before running away.

Last season I think the constestants went to where slaves were first traded. Wouldn't you stop for a moment and give the place its due reverence?

I know what you are saying, I am just saying that there are places that DEMAND that you stop and consider where you are standing. Can you imagine being led to Auschwitz, Bull Run, or "ground zero" and jsut zipping on by as you wave to the affable Phil?

I'd like to be on that show.
