When the Despiser first whisked me to Kevin's Watch and started prouncing his dark prophesies, I'd simply explain to him that he was in bad faith with himself, that his attempts to wholly define himself as Despite were merely a flight from his own freedom and responsibility to decide, that all his hatred of imperfect mortals was really hatred of his own free will which demanded that the constantly re-decide who he was and thus prevented him from obtaining any absolute completion of his being, from ever just *being* something, that this was the universal condition of all sentient beings and he should really just get over it and stop causing such a fuss.

Then he'd toss me off Kevin's Watch to my death and go on to take over the Land.

It'd make for a short book, and probably not very satisfying to anyone but me.

Holy crap, that was funny. But I can't help myself from thinking that would be a fantastic way to end this series: reforming foul. SRD has said that he's rethinking Foul's character, "sympathizing" with him more. He wants to give all his characters dignity. What better way could he give Foul dignity than to show him finally accepting himself, his plight, his existence?

Sadly, I think if I were whisked away to the Land, I'd behave exactly as Thomas Covenant.

Unfortunately, I would probably have ended up like Hile Troy; I am someone who just keeps battering at a problem until I fix it or it goes away, and I always think there is a logical way to approach anything and win.

Therefore, I would have listened to Foul's diatribe and begun making plans to get to the Lords, and then would likely have tried to put together an army or at least take advantage of my limited knowledge on warefare and tried to figure out gunpowder or something.

Since I sport a white gold wedding ring, I would have tried some systematic way to use it and believe in its power as a weapon, which we know was the wrong approach.

Probably end up as a tree somewhere, hopefully andelain.

I wouldn't have made it past LFB's timeframe I am afraid.

Ok, this would be scary.

WHERE'S THE HAND SANITIZER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you SURE that meat hasn't been out too long?! You could get food poisoning ya know. No thanks, I will stick with the bread and veggies.
If women were in charge, the military would have to do bake sales in order to buy more weapons.

I reckon I'd be a walking talking piece of the Illearth Stone (hence name and pic) - All residents of the Land, upon looking at me with their Earthsense, would get a bit wobbly and whoozy, start grinning and having a bit of fun, possibly fall over, then have quite a nasty gritty just-below-conscious-level hangover for several days! Woodhelvinnin would fall out of their trees, Stonedownors rasp their knuckles (probably foreheads too)on the granite, the Lords would be p#*sing in Glimmermere, and the haruchai hand-standing on the back of the Ranyhyn.

After all that, the destruction of the Arch seems like an easy triviality.

Perpetual stalemate - Lord Foul would start putting together a horde and then lose interest about a third of the way through. He probably got distracted by something on the Cartoon Network.

Meanwhile, Mhoram and all them would be sitting around saying:
"We should probably get around to calling the White Gold Wielder."
"Can we do it tomorrow? I'm too hungover for magic."
"Yeah, alright, we'll do it tomorrow. You want to go dutch for Chinese food?"
"Good call..."

Also, there would be wacky noises everytime someone fell over or got hit.
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Endut!

Something that I think I sympathise a lot with in the stories, is the discomfort of TC with having power. I don't think I'd do everything in the world to try to deny and disclaim it if I were given the same kind of power, but I think that would be the crowbar by which I could be put most at unease by a character like Mr. Foul. I think that's what I like a lot about The Illearth War... you have Troy, who takes up the opportunity and is crushed by it, and TC who refuses the opportunity and is crushed by it. In the end though, in my opinion, Troy is the one who made the best decision, trying and failing is at least trying. But power imo is one of those impossibly difficult balancing games, as shown with TC in the second trilogy.

The power of Incredible stubborn headedness.

With only a handful of words used as catalyst of my power.... WHY? ....everyone within earshot will be driven into extreme frustration, with responses that seam reasonable but again only to be asked WHY? yet again.

Foul- "Think on that, and be dismayed!"

The Un-Complaint- "WHY?"

each breath is but an exhalation of the grave.

Well, I think my personality would come out in this fashion. I would not rape Lena, but I would seduce her, kick Triocks ass, give the ring to Trell, marry Lena and live the good life for seven years.

"Better off dead than like this" leper at the leprosarium to Covenant/Berek.

I'm sure I would have envisioned myself as the hero, much like Troy. I would have tried to do the right thing and then I would have bitched endlessly about the consequences :)

In ROTE, Linden should have been old enough to be in the throes of menopause. She would not have needed a Staff of Law, Earth-sight, a doctor's degree, orcrest, a white gold ring, Earthpower, NOTHING. Being in the mere proximity of a woman in that condition would have all enemies begging for quick, merciful death. Her name would be ur-B**ch. All she needed would be given to her from a distance to keep her from having to go among her fellow humans. Sound familiar? Eggless! Outcast! Un-nice!! Hell and no blood! Alas! There is no Estroven in The Land! (No offense intended. I personally suffer from this malady, so I have first-hand knowledge of its "power.")
Heard my ears aright? Did not the gaddhi grant me this glaive?

:yeehaa: I imagine myself ending up in something similar to Anele's state of mind; crippled by astonishment. Especially in meeting the Ranyhyn and Mhoram's gang I'd be devastated with adoration.
Then I would probably seek refuge as an Unfettered, never to be seen again.

High Lord Tolkien wrote:I would be the ultimate weilder of the power of procrastination.

Imagine if you will a wedge of 100 score ur-Viles about to inflict total ruin upon a nearby Woodhelvin.
I could focus my power upon the ur-Vile loremaster and they wouldn't do anything for weeks, or maybe years depending on my mood.

Those that followed the Oath of Peace would hold me in the highest regard.

:o
Of course you'd have to bother to focus your power first. The more you became active and tried to do things the less of a procrastinator you'd be and your powers would become less useful. It's kind of a paradoxical power, which fits right into The Land.

I think my power would fall along the lines of...sleepiness. No matter how much sleep I get, and no matter how engaging a day is, I usually yawn throughout the day and have to rub tears out of my eyes (from keeping them open). I'm not sure how that'd work unless it somehow extended around me and made everyone else feel tired.

Actually, I have a habit of doing that without any sort of special powers.

Another cool thing, IMO, would be getting "health taste" instead of a health sense. You bite into someone and you can tell if they're Raving or anything like that.
