I bought this on DVD a few weeks ago....great, great movie, John Wayne notwithstanding. My favorite part is when Robert Mitchum's character is directing the advance from the beachhead, and finds a young Army engineer to blow up a concrete obstacle.Usivius wrote:The Longest Day. Saw it again recently and am in awe of the type of storytelling they tried. It is really good.
Greatest Historical Epic. (swords, spears and muskets)

I also liked Henry Fonda's portrayal of Teddy Roosevelt Jr., and enjoyed the pivotal scene where Roosevelt took command on the beach and directed Allied forces inland. He won the Medal of Honor for that, completing only the 2nd father-son combination to win the MoH (his father won it at the battle of San Juan Hill.) The other pairing are the MacArthurs.
