I cant watch the series past episode 2. I guess to me it's not funny. But anyway, I was talking about the movie.CovenantJr wrote:I take it you're talking about the film rather than the TV series? The series is flawed but enjoyable, while the film is mostly harmful. The books defeat all other incarnations of the Guide by a margin the size of Belgium.
What's playing?

Actually, somehow the script sucked out all of the book's funny parts and the actors were less than adequate.Loremaster wrote:Just watched Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Is there a comedy version available because the one I watched failed to make me laugh. Sorry, Adams 'humour just doesn't work with me.

Anyhow, I'm not the greatest fan of HHGG anyway. I much prefer Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, and to a slightly lesser degree, it's sequel The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul. Both of those books take place on earth during our time, and and English culture figures heavily into the story lines.
Don't give up on Doug completely until you've read Dirk Gently, at least.

Little Miss Sunshine. One of the funniest, most delightful movies I have ever seen.
You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.

He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

I think the Dirk books are more consistent in quality than the Guide. Dirk gets some great lines too.Aelyria Mireiswen wrote:Actually, somehow the script sucked out all of the book's funny parts and the actors were less than adequate.Loremaster wrote:Just watched Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Yes, indeed. I'm always quoting something or other from that book. . . like something or other "collapsing the probability waveform". . . which of course references Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle/Schrodinger's Cat thought experiment. . . but it serves my purposes to great effect now and again.CovenantJr wrote: I think the Dirk books are more consistent in quality than the Guide. I never get tired of that clever little book. . . I must have given 4-5 copies as gifts already.

And I love the character of Reg. . . "Regard this simple salt cellar. . ."

By an effort of will, I can enjoy the movie version of Hitchiker's Guide, but I agree that it's probably not the best way to introduce people to the humour of Douglas Adams. (Oh, well, dANdeLION got a kick out of the movie, and he and I at least agree that Sam Rockwell was good as Zaphod Beeblebrox.)

I watched The Benchwarmers tonight.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I thought it was really, really well done.

Watched The Interpreter last night. Thought the acting and the direction were both pretty good, but the ending was beyond silly.

Heh, for the life of me I can't see why people go ga-ga over her. She's not unattractive, but I just don't think she's all that.
