Gordianus the Finder lives in ancient Rome, at the time the Roman Republic is getting ready to fall, and on into the civil wars between Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great.
He works to find evidence for the law courts, and becomes known as an honest man who is good at solving crimes.

Because of this reputation, he comes into contact with all sorts of important people in Rome, from lawyer/senators like Cicero to miltary leaders (his son Meto serves under Caesar) to Cleopatra, who he meets in a trip to Egypt.
Gordianus does not go looking for trouble - he enjoys a quiet life at home with his family and his retainers - but quite often comes looking for him!
I have fun with these books. They are interesting mysteries, Gordianus and his family are by and large good people caught up in extraordinary events, and there in some interesting history thrown in.
