I would MUCH rather get a gift that had that much effort no matter what the actual gift was, then get a gift that cost alot over a gift and was in a "trendy" box. I would rather have the hand picked weed than the store bought bouquet. I would rather have the poem NO MATTER HOW BAD than the perfect hallmark card sentiment and I would rather have the morning wood than any perfectly coiffed and toothbrushed image It's all about the reality and the sentiment and not about the ceremony for me...

In the course of 6 months he sent me 5 dozen roses, 2 large flower boquets, gave me an expensive Harrod's teddy bear, and two large bottles of expensive french perfumes--just to name a few things. He spent money like it was going out of style! The two of us spent well over $1k in five weeks on incidental things while he was on vacation with me (he lived in Denmark, and came to spend his vacation in the States with me).
I appreciated the gifts, but I started to get less than enthused when I'd answer the door and find another dozen roses. They were nice, but. . . all I could think of was the fact that the flowers must have cost a fortune, and at best they would last a week. He wanted to shower me with fine things. . . and I just wanted the simplest thing--attention and heartfelt sentiment.
Obviously the two of us did not work out, but I am glad in a way that I had that experience. It totally cured me of wanting traditional "relationship things" like flowers and such. Now I'm more grounded, and want the little things. For instance: another boyfriend went out and bought the exact same laundry detergent and fabric softener that I use so that I could wash clothes at his house--all because I mentioned that I am allergic to many soaps and laundry products. Seeing those laundry supplies in his cabinet touched me more than 24 long-stemmed roses would have.![]()

What can I say? I'm terribly romantic. . .
Hahaha. Oh man, ninjas are the most girly guys in the universe (except the female ninjas... they are not guys).CovenantJr wrote:I'm secure enough in my masculinity to be be able to admit to a good cry.I don't feel the need to compensate for my girliness by becoming a ninja.
