Reformatted CGI: Star Trek Original Series
I couldn't find a thread for this. I know it has been discussed a bit. I have seen a few episodes with the new CGI including Balance of Terror and the Mengerie Part 1. Good stuff!
The ones I want to see are:
The Doomsday Machine
The Immunity Syndrome
Hopefully, the doomsday machine will look better than a cruller floating in space.

My wife, who is as big a TOS fan as I am, refers to that episode as "The Flying Turd"A Gunslinger wrote: Hopefully, the doomsday machine will look better than a cruller floating in space.
I've seen most of the remastered episodes so far.
Here is the schedule if anyone is interested.

The enhancements haven't been as extensive as I would have liked though I understand that the CGI team is trying to preserve the orginal feel. Frankly I would have been fine if they had fixed everything possible. Give the Enterprise much more movement etc.
I expect the Doomsday Machine itself will appear very much like it always has with some tweaks. We'll see.

I've caught a few, and I have to admit that the Enterprise looks pretty cool all CGI-enhanced, and so do the planets. Haven't seen any effect-heavy eps yet, though, so I can't speak for how those turned out.
Are these reworked versions going to be made available on DVD?

It is setting a dangerous new precedent: older shows are not as good if the effects are not up to standard. What made the original series great were the stories. Sure, changing effects doesn't affect that, but I hope people value shows for story and character rather than how modern the effects are.Lord Foul wrote:To me, part of the original Trek's charm was its lo-fi SFX. Hate it when people pull a George Lucas and crap on nostalgia, tacking on effects that will one day look lo-fi themselves.
