Christmas music
Maybe this belongs in Vespers, but....
Just watching a Top Of The Pops Christmas Special, and considering I'm sick to death of Christmas music in the shops, I'm quite enjoying all the Christmas hits from years gone by.
Must be getting soft in my old age, or maybe it's the drink talking (hic...)

Well, Guns, that holiday song thread you're referring to is about posting favorite lyrics, right? (Gee, another lyrics thread in Vespers, heh.) Surely the Gen Disc mods won't mind too much having a Christmas music thread here, to go along with the other Christmas threads.
For me, the music has always been more important than the lyrics.
Christmas was never really a big part of my childhood in terms of gift-giving or family get-togethers, but I do get nostalgic whenever music from The Nutcracker or A Charlie Brown Christmas starts playing.
There's also Elvis Presley's Christmas Album. Go ahead, laugh if you want, but as far as I'm concerned, Elvis was the only one who could actually make sappy Christmas songs sound downright COOL. And in my opinion, his rendition of White Christmas remains the best ever by anybody.

I liked Bing, but for things other than his singing of Christmas songs. Nothing wrong with his version of White Christmas (I think it's in the Guinness book as the biggest-selling single of all time). It's just too - how shall I put it? - "middle of the road" for me. I prefer Elvis's because he and his musicians injected a sense of playfulness into the song - a light touch. At the same time, he is more soulful to my ears than Bing.
Yes, all that in one little song. Elvis could do that.

I perfer Elvis' Blue Christmas.
One Christmas song I'm sick to death of is John Lennons So this is Christmas...and especially Sarah Maclaughlin's version of it that came out this year.

I thought you were a ripe grape
a cabernet sauvignon
a bottle in the cellar
the kind you keep for a really long time
