Characters
Who are your favorite characters in fantasy and science fiction?
My favorite of all time has to be Corwin of Amber. I love that guy so damn much, that I had to quote him in my signature. His aphorisms, asides, and put-downs make me laugh out loud every time I read the "Amber" series. In addition to that, he's fantasy's greatest badass (in my opinion), a master swordsman, the creator of a new universe, and the most hated/loved man in Amber. He's a great character, especially as a narrator.
Runners-up would have to be Thomas Covenant himself, one of the finest tragiheroes in fantasy, as well as Paul Muad'Dib the Atreides Emperor, my favorite Messiah in science fiction.
(Sorry if this is a rehash. I want back a few pages, and could only find pat's poll.)

Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

My short list: Elric, Sam Gamgee, Mhoram, and Corwin. (I need to read more scifi/fant. I read lots of regular fiction, but they rarely have as good characters)
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.
