Your care is appreciated, but fortunately I am enjoying the music.Matrixman wrote:Nice to know your interest in classical music has been engaged, CJ. That is all that can be asked of the listener. Seconded - both the ignorance of Jimmy Buffett and lack of inclination to rectify that.Marvin wrote:I've never heard of Jimmy Buffett. I get the impression that I'm not missing out on anything.

I don't get any music that involves long, long, neverending guitar solo's. Just wrap that shit up already.

I really don't listen to him much, but I had the chance to see him live when I was in Boston a couple of years ago. It was one of the better concerts I've been to just from the aspect of crowd participation.

Michael is what he is,there is a place in this world for good time in a public restroom, pull a drunk, I don't give a shit music. And Michael is the best there is at making it.Careless Whisper
George Michael
Time can never mend the careless whispers of a good friend
To the heart and mind, ignorance is kind
there's no comfort in the truth
pain is all you'll find
Should've known better
I feel so unsure
as I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor
as the music dies, something in your eyes
calls to mind the silver screen
and all its sad good-byes
I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm
though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
Should've known better than to cheat a friend
and waste the chance that I've been given
so I'm never gonna dance again
the way I danced with you
Time can never mend
the careless whispers of a good friend
to the heart and mind
ignorance is kind
there's no comfort in the truth
pain is all you'll find
I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm
though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
Should've known better than to cheat a friend
and waste this chance that I've been given
so I'm never gonna dance again
the way I danced with you
Never without your love
Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
Maybe it's better this way
We'd hurt each other with the things we'd want to say
We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
But noone's gonna dance with me
Please stay
And I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm
though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
Should've known better than to cheat a friend
and waste the chance that I've been given
so I'm never gonna dance again
the way I danced with you
(Now that you're gone) Now that you're gone
(Now that you're gone) What I did's so wrong
that you had to leave me alone

Wow, what's up with all the Rush hate? Ok, "hate" is perhaps too strong--but we're talking about my favorite band, here. The slightest hint of displeasure sounds like hate to me!
Rush has 18 studio albums (and 4 live) spanning a 30 year career. There's got to be some music there you'd like. Unlike dinosaur bands such as the Stones, Rush is still making provocative, challenging, and fresh music--not just repeating the same old formulas. Each album is different from the last.
And they DO have (*gasp*) "hits!" [Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, Spirit of Radio, Freewill, Closer to the Heart, Limelight, Working Man . . .] And unlike most "hits," there is actually some musicianship involved. These are three of the best musicians in rock history, pumping out more music than a dozen lesser musicians. Geddy sings, plays bass, and plays synthesizer footpedals at the same time. That's three independent melodies done by one man.
Now, maybe you don't like his voice. That's a fair complaint. However, he has toned down the helium-balloon notes of the past (I think he can't hit them anymore) and sings in a more "normal" range which sounds much better. I don't see how anyone can like Yes's lead singer any better. Jon Anderson's "Mickey Mouse" voice is about as annoying as they get.
Maybe you don't like prog rock. That's another fair complaint--much of the genre isn't easily accessible. However, Rush has THE MOST accessible, radio-friendly songs of any prog rock band. Compare Spirit of Radio to the gloomy, meandering improvisation of early King Crimson, and you'll see what I mean. And there's no comparison to the pretentiousness of Yes. Rush rocks.
If none of this convinces you, well, let Rush speak for themselves. Check out their live performances. Most of these are from the 30th anniversery tour. These are 50+ year old men still rocking.

Yes, they're turning into a little "lets stomp on it together clique" aren't they? First Rush and now poor Jimmy Buffett...
I saw Rush (with Stevie Vai opening) during the Power Windows tour-excellent show!!!
and have proudly owned Closer to the Heart, 2112, Fly By Night, Power Windows and Test For Echo.
