Well, we dodged the first ice storm, the one on Sunday morning - but the heavier one of Sunday night got us good. We lost power on Sunday night and just got it back about an hour ago! And yes, it is now Tuesday afternoon! :(

Since I have a well with an electric pump, it is a huge relief to get running water again. I am waiting another hour, to make sure that the water heater has done its thing, and then I am going to take an endless hot shower!!!!!!!!!!!

My hub's buddy came over yesterday and hotwired the furnace to the generator. I have been running outside every few hours since to refill it with gas. During the day that wasn't too bad, but it sucked at night since it was so dark and I was doing it by flashlight. I am pretty tired, and will be very happy when the buddy comes back over this afternoon to unhotwire the furnace, so it can run off of electricity again instead.

Of all the weekends for my husband and kids to fly out to California to visit his parents! I have been begging him to go see them for years - no one in his fmaily gets along very well, and I wanted him to see them at least once more while they are still in good health both physically and mentally - they are getting pretty elderly and both have diabetes. So he finally goes - and what a crap weekend it turned out to be back here at home! :o Boy, did I ever get screwed for trying to do something good for other people. :?

While this entire experience was a pain - there is still great beauty in it. It is freezing cold today, but clear as a bell. The trees are still encased in ice. The sun is shining on them and turning every twig on every branch of every tree into a prism. It is like everything is covered with diamonds. It is so beautiful that it hurts. It is nearly too beautiful to be in our world - it is as though the realm of the Snow Queen in the land of Faerie has briefly overlapped out world, and left some of its haunting beauty behind.
Love as thou wilt.

Did you take any pictures of the landscape?! I'll bet it's beautiful.

Not yet, but am considering how to do it (with the cold, the ice should stick around a few more days). I'm not sure which setting to use for the tree tops to catch all of the shiny sparkles. :)

Still waiting for the buddy. I just filled up the generator again (hopefully for the last time), as the furnace is still hot wired to it. And this is a day when you need heat or every pipe in your house will freeze and burst. 8O

I feel amused although I probably shouldn't be.

One of the guys from the body shop next door bought a used BMW two months ago after he totalled his Acura. (He wasn't hurt by the way) Anyway, he finished making the body and paint of the BMW perfect about a month ago and then today some guy totally plows into the entire side of it while it's parked on the street basically maiming the only part of the vehicle that DIDN'T get repainted.....what can you do at that point but laugh about it?

It is bad carma....hahahahhah. Mikhail is a nice guy but seriously.....that's not good car odds lately.

Just found out it get's worse. The guy who hit him did not speak english so SFPD sent out some Tagalog speaking officers and they then subsequently found out that the guy was driving uninsured.
