Well, thanks for giving it a try, and I'm sorry you didn't like it.

It was most likely Leave That Thing Alone, based on how long the track was.

Yes, Phish has been mentioned. And whoever it was, he was wrong.
Phish is cool. And talented. I don't understand how people can dis bands with lots of musical ability and loads of creativity. If you simply don't like that style of music--fine. I can understand; I don't like rap or country. But despite your own personal tastes, how can you not recognize their talent and originality?
[Edit: wow Luci, you represent exactly what I was talking about here-- appreciating their inherent talent while acknowledging that they don't suit your tastes. I think we were posting at the same time.]

Esmer, you're going to have to explain that one.
I find that with music of a certain level of talent, even if I'm not into it personally, it grows on me. This "growing on me" is usually a process of me coming to appreciate something too complex, subtle, and layered to appreciate on the first listen. I did't like Phish at first. They sounded dorky and goofy. But then I heard beyond that, and looked beyond their neo-hippy fans, and heard what they were playing. They really are incredible. And their fans aren't so bad once you get into their mindset. Going to one of their shows is like going to church--or at least how church should be if it weren't about condemnation and self debasement. It truly is communal, joyous, and exhibits a reverence for living.

I didn't feel a need to go into that much detail, but thats what I'm saying and what the threads about? I don't say they suck, I'm just not going to quit my job and follow them around the country selling glassware to live, heh.appreciating their inherent talent while acknowledging that they don't suit your tastes

Primus is atonal and repetitive. It's what happens when a bassist who can't sing is the leader of the band: all rhythm and very little tone or melody. While they have many good, funky rhythms, their songs are all "songs waiting to happen." Les was fantastic on Adrian Belew's solo CDs, for instance.
But I do have one of their DVDs, and listen to it occassionally.
