I see.

Post by Sunbaneglasses »

Are we going in a direction where every thread and every post has to be profound and meaningful?IMO we tend to have fun in a rather mature manner as it is,just look at some other boards for examples.Where as you might come across a topic such as "People You Would Like To ****" on some other boards,we had one called tamely enough "People You Think Are Beautiful".It had rather tasteful pics, including some of members children, grandchildren, and wives.
Esmer created a quirky, funny little thread where he invited you to belittle him for your own amusement.Where as on some boards the invitation may have led to profanity laced insinuations that he has relations with animals, family members,or some other such nonsense, our members kept it light, and rather silly.
Loremaster created a thread lampooning a couple of other threads and lightheartedly so another member.

All these threads are locked.

True,I may not always make a profound point in my posts,I may not always use proper punctuation, and I may sometimes sound quite stupid. But my point is,it seems we generally know how to have fun without sinking to the levels that some of our moderators have such fear we may sink to that they feel they have to be the fun police. And on the rare occasion that someone gets out of line, they generally see the light and at least for a while amend their ways.

So many times I have seen this moderator pop into a thread and threaten to lock or delete it.To me these out of the blue threats are starting to sound a little petty, especially when he has several times said that the thread being 'pointless' is the reason for the threat.Seems to me that this either needs to be addressed,or General Discussion needs to be removed,or renamed "Threads and Posts That Have a Point to Covenant Jr".

You bring up a lot of good points. Personally, I thought Esmer's topic was fine. Along with the other topics. But someone must of felt they deserved to be closed, so they're closed. I won't step on anyone's toes.

Heh, I was thinking earlier that maybe we should have some sort of Relationships Forum for all of these topics or perhaps "The Sex" Forum, or whatever, heh.

Or, dare I say it, a Spam Forum?

Heh.

I donno. Sounds like something we need to make more clear about in our rules.-jay

Well, I wouldn't normally have given an opinion on the matter but as we've been given this opportunity...

I don't object to fun threads or even stupid, pointless ones(lord knows I've made some crappy ones myself) but the proliferation of members 'fancying' other members threads and the de-railing of others to that sort of nonsense is annoying the buggery out of me. In fact, while I say de-railing I think it's bloody obvious that some threads are pretty much a love-in for a select few members in all but name.

However, y'all are members and if that's what you wanna do then I don't see how anyone can object, even if some of us find it trying.

That's just how I feel.

If we switch "buggery" with "hell" and "y'all" with "you" this is my opinion word for word.

It has gotten a little weird here lately.
I just ignore it though.
Seems like it's all in good fun.

I think Jay's suggestion of a new forum is a good idea.

A sub-forum of the GD, for fun talk about who's cute, and who's hot, and all the flirting...then the GD could be used for regular talk about this and that.

The reason to use a different forum is thus:

Have you ever been away for more than two days, and then log in a gain...?
There's like fifty new topics in the GI and most of them are already on their fifth or sixth page;

NOt that I have anything agaist all the flirting (other than then fact that I'm never included :( )

BUt I think it would be more beterer if it was centralizsed..rather then in every second thread in half the forums.

CJr's not the only one with the ability to lock threads - all the admins have that ability and we exercise it at our discretion, based on what's going on in the forum as a whole.

Also, there is such a thing as "too much of a good thing." That's why some people are fed up with a proliferation of certain types of threads.

I would be against creating a new subforum for crush threads, etc. For a long time now, I have been against the creation of new forums and "compartmentalizing." For instance, I think The Library as a whole is pointless. I find it irritating and unnecessary to scroll through a whole slew of forums, most of which aren't even consistently posted in, when we already have a Literature forum. Keeping forums large and active is the way to go, IMO. Why not keep all the "general discussion" threads in the General Discussion forum, and allow the moderators to make decisions about them when the circumstances call for it? *shrug*

I see your point LM...but look at it this way...
There are three separate forums just for TC discussion.

They made a Movie forum, because there were so many threads about a TC movie, it was getting annoying for any one who DIDN't want to discuss a movie, but want to look through some TC disscussions.

I like to look at the Photography thread pic...but I'm not too interested in having to scroll through six different threads about who thinks who is hot to find it.

If they were separate, they wouldn't be in the way.

Hey...how about that...? Is there a way someone can block a certain thread form even appearing on someone's screen if they don't want to ever view it?

I know the technology is here to block whole forums...why not certain threads?

You're right of course, I just think that in an effort to super-organize the board, we just end up with threads sprawled all over the place and a lot of useless forums. Plus we're going to run out of TCTC names to use sooner or later. ;-)

Well said, but I disagree. The pr0n talk isn't just "general discussion" it's... well, it's like Mallory's. I'd be all for keeping it seperate. Although I take part, I completely feel for the people who don't want to see it and want to post in the threads that involve actual discussion.

Also, I personally LOVE the compartmentalizing. It's nice to be able to know exactly where to go for any topic. I find it convienent.

I don't see how it's any more frustrating to scroll through a slew of pointless forums than it is to scroll through a slew of pointless threads. ;)

Essentially i agree, though. The same thing happened when mallory's was descending in to drivel (yes, even more than now :P ). We discussed it and some of it got cut out, at least to the point where it's fairly easy to navigate around and play the games you want. Hopefully the same will happen in General Dis.

Well, maybe there could be a mirror forum called "SPECIFIC discussion"...

I'm with Wadds. Have a 'space' for people who come here for lighthearted fun (like you got "Tank" for all the uber-serious crap). Not all of us are into politics, religion & irksome topics which incite argument.

Pointless topics aren't the issue. I don't like them myself, but my personal taste isn't relevant. A slew of near-identical pointless topics, however, is an issue. Hence the lockage.
