"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

It doesn't register in the ratings, just like using Comcast's On Demand feature.

It also means that you're probably not watching the commercials, which is what the ratings are for.

Which means absolutely nothing unless youa re a Nielsen family. I'm not, so, it doesn't matter how I watch.

I'm not so sure about that anymore. I've heard that your cable company can report what channel your box is set to, and that's how ratings are determined now.

Now, I've only heard this second-hand from a guy who's wife works for Arbitron, so take it for what it's worth.

My mother had a Neilson box for a year or so. And they tied into the VCR as well so they'd know what channel it was on (so that info could be collected as well if they taped a show). So I'd be surprised if they didn't have some way of capturing info from DVRs as well.

Great article, though! Thanks!!

I think Sunday is a better day, although I'd have liked to see it at 9pm instead of 10. Hey - us old folks who were around for the first series get to bed a lot earlier than we used to! But I'm glad they separated it from Monk and Psych - those, with BG, are the things on TV that I never miss if I can help it. I have a dual-tuner DVR cable box that always let me get both Monk and BG, but it sometimes acted screwy (figure that - something from Comcast not working right!) and would force me to watch Monk during that hour (since it would cancel the recording of BG if I tried to change the channel).
And then the ravens pecked out his eyes.

I agree, it is a bummer that both BSG and LOST are switching to 10pm, I sure hope they don't switch Heroes. I'll most likely be recording BSG and LOST and wawtching the following day myself.

Confusing!
Spoiler
Why would the final 5 be seen in the temple built by the 13th tribe?

And, of course, who was it she saw???? Starbuck is now the likely candidate?? Or is that too easy? I sure hope they start resolving this!!!

Spoiler
I don't think it's Starbuck. But that's because I've always been convinced that it's Baltar. And I heard - in an online interview, I think - that this season: one person will die, one person will find out they're a cylon, and one person will find Earth. So if it's only "one person," I have to hold with my Baltar theory. But that really confuses the "Adama is a cylon," statement from Leoben in the first season - I still don't think he was lying, although there's not even the smallest hint how that may play out.

The one person dying has become obvious. Although it was done in a way that you'd never expect. Wow!

So I think Starbuck is more in line for the "one person finds Earth" role than for the hidden toaster. :-)

I wasn't ever as convinced of this, just because it was handed to us. Plus, would she have reacted the way she did just now?

I think this is a better possibility. I never thought it was a lie either.

I hadn't heard about those things that will happen this season, but she does seem to have been groomed for this. I would have agreed even without the painting.

Regarding Leoban's mention that an Adama is a Cylon, after seeing the last episode, it seems that there's something going on with "time" here, otherwise, how could the right people be in the right place for Supernova. The Adama Leoban was referring to could be Lee, or bill, or Lee's wife Dualla, and considering how close Laura Roslyn and Bill Aama got on New Caprica, Laura and Bill may one day get married, making her an Adama. Sharon (And Starbuck) have always been considered by Bill as being his daughters, so since it's a prophecy, history could be remembering wrong, and Sharon fits the description.

Thinking out of the box, Sam could be the Cylon (of the final 5) that D'Anna apologized to since she treated him so badly on Caprica when he was part of the Caprican resistance.

"Taking a Break From All Your Worries" Episode (313?). I guess this is the "Cheers" episode? :-) Sam & Dianne and Frasier & Lilith argue (again) about their relationships. Norm stabs Cliff in the neck with a fountain pen. Those silly bean-towners!

Boy, was this one a lot more interesting than the trailers suggested! I'm still dead set on my views regarding Baltar, no matter what his internal 6 says (in fact, he shouldn't even HAVE one of those - it just proves my point).
Spoiler
Geez - how many times did Baltar die ... or almost die ... or should have died ... in this episode? Wow! I kept waiting for it to happen for real, and for him to wake up in the resurrection tank. But he'd have to do so without the beard - that was a dead giveaway that it wasn't for real. But like Adama said, Baltar is always going to consider himself the victim in his own mind - so this whole episode was Baltar being in denial that he's really a cylon. He's no more human than Hannibal Lechter.
It was shocking seeing Roslin going off on him like she did. I don't think I ever saw McDonnell in a role where she was yelling like that. She was a wild woman!

Speaking of wild women ... I jumped over to the scifi.com/battlestar site after the show to view the rest of the "extra scene." And was met with a big banner ad about Tricia Helfer's appearance in Feb's issue of Playboy. I bet they made a fortune off of *that* link!
And then the ravens pecked out his eyes.

Spoiler
I don't know, Romeo. I no longer think it can be Baltar. It couldn't have been another clone of Baltar that #6 met just after he left her in the town square. And the original one couldn't have died on Caprica during the destruction of the colonies, hiding behind 6's legs as the explosion ripped through the far wall. If either of those were true, the other models would know that Baltar is a cylon. If it was a clone in the town square, that means there's at least that other clone, walking around in public, unnoticed by the other models. And 6 was very surprised when she learned that he had survived the destruction and was alive on Galactica, and none of the others reacted as though 6 was the only one who didn't know. And if Xena did know he was one, then who the heck was she so shocked to see in the Eye?

Spoiler
I don't know. Perhaps the Final Five are unique. If they're really agents that are just more under cover than the others, then wouldn't there be empty replacement bodies on one of the resurrection ships? So the other cylons would have to know who they are. But also, a single cylon knowing that one person is one of the Final Five does not necesarilly mean that all of those models know - or that any other cylon has that same information. Caprica 6 may not have known that the real Baltar would be replaced with a cylon model when he died in that explosion. SHE died in that explosion, and as nice as her legs are, I don't think they're any special proof against that kind of damage - so hiding behind them wouldn't have done him much good. If he was to survive, he could have been taken to the house's basement - or at least into a room not entirely composed of glass. <grin>

Perhaps the "person" who replaced human Baltar with cylon Baltar was also one of the Final Five. So the other models wouldn't just be keeping quiet about them (they said, "we don't talk about them"), they really don't have any idea who any of them are.

Baltar spent the whole episode in denial. He didn't want to be a human because then what he did wouldn't have been betrayal (on Caprica and New Caprica). But he didn't really want to be a cylon, so his subconsious said he wasn't (but he doesn't really have a human subconscious - he's projecting 6 just like the other cylons, and that didn't start until after the explosion in his house). He wants to tell people how the cylons got into the defense mainframe, but he doesn't want to admit any responsibility for the resulting genocide. After all, he just let a competitor into the computer in exchange for personal help and a roll in the hay - he didn't *really* do anything wrong. <he types while rolling his eyes>

Nope. I still believe Baltar is one of the Final Five - or perhaps the Grand Poobah Cylon himself, and therefore exempt from being counted among the 12. And so far the only thing that puts a touch of doubt in my mind is when Leoban told Roslin, "Adama is a cylon."

It really is a difficult thing to figure out, eh? I hope when we do learn the answers, we don't see glaring problems. But maybe the 5 can resurrect all the way back to the homeworld, so they don't have copies on the ship. Or maybe they're in a special, locked room. One that only opens from the inside, so they come out after resurrecting, and they have so much experience that it's easy for them to do it alone. Or maybe...... Or.....

Excellent point about not all models necessarily knowing. (And excellent point about 6's legs.)

No reason it can't be both, eh? :) But, then, he lied about Starbuck's "daughter," so we can't count on him having told the truth. (Odd that I felt they were above lying.)
