Of all the people who I think might die, the only two who I can say are sure fire bets:
Voldemort
Snape.

Volody, just because the whole series has to have an ending like that at least. If not, I will be thoroughly disappointed.

Snape, just because I truly beleive he is running both sides, but really a good guy now. Dumbl is dead. By having Snape being really bad, takes away from the drama of that betrayal. And I think JKR will be cranking up the tears and honourable death when it is revealed once and for all that Snape was just playing the villain, not actually one of them...

I think Hermione and Ron are safe. They carry Harry's story and legacy once he dies (just a thought).

And I agree that one fo the Weasley twins dies. I can see the death prompting the other to forget silly joke magics and go to war with Harry with all his malicious ideas... heheheh

Book 6 ended with the impression we wouldn't be attending Hogwarts in Book 7, I'm thinking something needs to happen that forces them to return to at least start school in their 7th year.
Agreed on both, the subtitle of the books have always been Hogwarts Year whichever.
sindatur wrote:I'm thinking, at least one Weasley dies, there's just too many of them, too directly involved for them all to survive. If Ron dies, there will also be another Weasley dying. If it happens fairly early, I'm thinking one of the twins, everyone has always wondered how JKR would tear our hearts out with the surviving one mourning. If it doesn't happen early, the twins are probably safe, because I think JKR will indeed want to explore that drama.
Agreed. I'm thinking Ginny, even though Harry attempted to break up with her to 'protect' her.

See above.
sindatur wrote:I think Lupin will survive, he's the last of the Marauders, if Pettigrew dies. JKR only wanted to scare us with the whole metal arm, and picking up the metal goblet, maybe she'll scare us a little more, but, Lupin won't die from the experience. It would be kinda neat if he was cured in the process.
The hook up of Lupin and Tonks leads me to believe one or the other, but then so does the hook up of Fleur and Bill...

Harry will return to Privet Drive, I agree with that. Then the trio will attend the wedding and the hard stuff will start from there.

I can only hope it's Luna, she's my least fave of the bunch but I have a bad feeling that it's gonna be Ginny for two reasons, only daughter in the Weasley family and Harry's love interest.

As for Lupin or Tonks, my guess is Lupin. Fenyrir Greyback will find out he's in the Order and kill him.

Greyback is a danger to anyone and everyone. Pure Evil.

The one I am most confident in her escaping doom is Hermione.

Unless Fenrir Greyback bites her..... Not to harp on it but I have a feeling he's going to play a role in the final book. There's been to much setup for him to not be a big influence in book 7.

I honestly think either Luna or Neville or Hermione might get bitten.

There's been boatloads of foreshadowing for Ron to die, making it too obvious that he will die, so I think it was actually foreshadowing that his heart would die, meaning Hermione is very likely, especially considering HP is their love story, as much as anything else. Plus Hermione represents JKR, if she kills herself (Hermione), she can't be expected to write any more HP books, if she lets Harry live.

To be honest, unless JKR is really nice to us, I have a feeling Harry may be better of dying, than living, what with all those loved ones he's already lost and those he may lose in this final book. I'm not sure letting Harry live is really a reprieve.

Sin, care to enlighten me with some examples of the foreshadowing? I think I may be a little dense because I honestly didn't pick that up at all.

I can only think of one of the top of my head that might fit the bill and that's when Ron sacrifices himself in the chess game so that Harry and Hermione can go on.....

Guns, I tried.... I honestly never picked up that Ron's death was being foretold. That scene was all I could come up with off the top of my head.

Sin hurry, Guns and I NEED you!

Yes, the Chess Game was the first example. (I believe the numerology number mentioned below figures into his sacrificial square)

Then there is the "First to get up from a table of(however many it was)" could be Harry or Ron

Then there is something about the brain experience in OotP.

Also, I think I read something on Mugglenet way back when about a number that keeps being associated with Ron, which spells demise. And also the Bogart (although that could stand for almost all of them) as well as the Mortal danger clock in the Weasley house hasn't come into much use.

I can't think of anything.
In fact I throw my vote in for him staying alive. He is destined to come out of the Weasley family shadows cast by his elder brothers, and even Harry.
Take a look at his bio on Wikipedia ... this, to me, does not sound like the bio of a character being set up for death...

And so far all the deaths have made sense in a story-telling way. At this point, Ron's would not.

:)

Why would that be weak? The story's been fairly well plotted out from the day she put the first word to paper. We see the first Horcrux destroyed in Book 2...

It seems like a convention rather than a story that is built... *shrugs*.

Ron and Hermione should be OK I think. Percy might bite it when he tries to untether himself from the darker elements... he may have "seen too much" ya know?

Actually Guns, I think the chess game example is the strongest of the arguments so far. I'll look at the brain stuff this weekend.

What do you mean by "untether himself from the darker elements"? Percy certainly isn't playing on the best team, but, he's a ministry man through and through, and we don't have a reason to believe the Ministry as a whole is corrupted by the dark side, only required one agent to let the DEs in. You see something I missed?

I dont' think Percy is in with dark elements. He's just an arrogant ass who can't admit being wrong.
