Correct, IMHO. that is the mentality that is swimming in the Ministry, Delores Umbridge, Cornelius Fudge (and his replacement), Percy, and on and on. Prejudiced and arrogant, but, not supporters of the dark side (unless Guns has something up his sleeve to show us?)

I felt that Percy was in a position where he might be someone who has or will see too much. Yes he's an ass, and a self-serving one. He is on the periphery of the truly bad apples, though not directly involved. I could see him getting in over his head...that's all.

Guns, I'm on lowly dial-up access. Can you post a synopsis?

Well, I will give you that JKR has set him up to take a big fall. Percy will have to either redeem himself or die.

Or both, die redeeming himself.

How about the other Aurors? Kingsley Shacklebot (anyone else see Leonard Roberts
kevinswatch.ihugny.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=452723#452723
when they read Kingsley?) and Mad-Eye, anyone think they'll make it through?

I hadn't thought too much about it. I would love it if Neville gets to be Bellatrix's downfall. I loves me some Neville.

Actually, to be honest I really really adore Neville, he got a crap deal out of life and yet he's still hands down the most loveable of any of the characters in the book. My heart was so happy for him when he did so well in the secret DADA classes and when he fought so bravely at the Ministry. I hope he gets a chance to cause Bellatrix some serious mindboggling suffering. He's another one that I feel has an important perhaps even key part in the events of book 7.

I love Neville as well, especially being as challenged magically as he had been prior to the DADA gatherings and living with his high expectations grandmother.

I admit, when it was posted that someone would come into their magic late in life, my first thought was that Neville would finally come into his own magically. But, I think that's going to happen anyway, since the prophecy applies to either Neville or Harry. Dumbledore could have been wrong about Voldemort choosing who it applied to when he marked Harry...

I agree. Unfortunately, I am afraid Neville needs to lose something more before he becomes angry enough to be able to whomp her, though.

Well, Neville wasn't marked by Voldemort himself as was Harry so I think we are safe with Harry being the one in the prophecy at this point. I do think we are going to see something big with Neville though. I don't think he's gonna get killed. I think Neville is going to do something seriously huge, whether it's killing Bellatrix or some other major act that will be a big factor in the plot of book 7. JKR better not kill Neville or she's gonna get some serious hate mail from me.....

I do have a part of me that fears, Neville will find out about the prophecy, and get it into his head, it applies to him as well, and get himself killed trying to be the hero. Something just feels like part of the prophecy applies to Neville, and part to Harry, despite DD's explanation. Or it's also a nagging feeling that One will start the vanquishing and die, and the other will finish the job, meaning only Harry or Neville would survive, not both of them.

Why are you so cruel, giving us so many possibilities, JKR?

Guns, I give the Potter Puppet Pals one heh.

I have some other questions and maybe I should be frequenting a HP forum but I really don't have the energy to join another one and really I prefer trying to figure this stuff out myself, and I respect you guys so I definitely want your opinions. Ok, why can't Harry see the Thestrals at the end of GOF? Also, and this is a biggie for me, how does Voldemort retain his wand. He himself states in the end of GOF that he found himself without a body and unable to wield a wand. How did he retain his original wand then? He was non corporeal so he couldn't have carried it right? Wouldn't it have remained in James and Lily's house? Less important, can't remember exactly when but I think it's either book 2 or 3 when reintroducing the invisibility cloak, it's clearly stated that the cloak is the ONLY thing he inherited from his father. Does that mean all the gold was Lily's? Nitpicky about that one, I know. But it's the little things that drive me a little nutty especially in a book/book series that is all about dropping incredibly subtle hints of things to come.

(This is also why I am sure SRD bangs his head on his desk after getting my emails from reads)

I too put myself in the Neville fan club. I like that guy. He would have been me if I was somehow thrust in to the pages of the book ... him or Ron ...

I personally cam eup with the explanation that Harry had been through an awful lot in the graveyard. Can you imagine at 14 years old, having just gone through that, that you would notice there was now something visible pulling the carriages, or would you be in too much shock to notice even a tiny bit of the ride home?

JKR did give an official answer, which is that you have absorb and process the death, therefore, his parents wouldn't work, because he was only an infant, and when he rode home at the end of GoF, he hadn't yet finished processing it. It probably also had a little to do with the book was already pretty long, and she was still on the "book a year" deadline, which almost drove her crazy trying to keep up with by this time, and having to add the Thestral explanation into GoF would've made the book longer, and the deadline even tighter. She did however, have this in mind all along to use the Thestrals, because they are defined in the school book Fantastic creatures, before OotP (and maybe even before GoF) came out.

Popular belief is that someone was there with him, the most popular candidates were/are Snape and Pettigrew. If it ws Pettigrew, that would explain how Voldemort got his wand back, since Pettigrew hung out with him in GoF. I believe there is canon to strongly suggest it, but, don't recall at the moment what it is. Peter did do battle with Sirius near the scene.

As for the Threstrals...I don't know. Is it because he didn't actually SEE his parents die? Bein' in the crib and all (apologies to Angus)?

As for the wand.... my guess is that a Death-eater or two (Snape in my pet theory could be at the scene) was at the home as well, and picked up the wand. Malfoy could have kept it for safekeeping.

The Gold could very well have been Lily's OR "the only thing" may have meaning relative to only keepsakes or heirlooms, not material wealth or money. Nitpicky indeed!
