Or maybe, the ancient Illearth Stone was the tool of another Necromancer, maybe another evil long before Covenants time?
Far-fetched? Yes, but worth the discussion...or at least Im hoping it is...

I would say they came of their own accord. Just like Covenant shows up at the end of WGW after Foul strikes him dead - this was planned on by Covenant, so he couldn't count on Foul summoning him.Warmark wrote:i always thought they appeared of their own accord. Kinda like " Oh! This guy Foul who we all fought against is about to lose , i wanna watch!"
Without giving any spoilers, I can say that there is a pretty definite sign in Runes of the Earth that someone had access to the Illearth Stone before the Desecration.Padster wrote:The Illearth Stone didn't need to have a previous user to be named. I would imagine that the Lore of Kevin told him of the Banes under the earth, and it isn't beyond belief for the knowledge of their existance to be part of the First Ward. Therefore when TC delivered his message that Drool was about to uncover and get his hands on it, it was enough to put the heebe-geebes up the Lords and get their butts in gear.
Certainly no one had hold of it, at any time, until Drool unearthed it. It was buried under Mount Thunder after all, where loads of Urviles and Cavewights lived. Even at the time of the Old King and Berek, it is likely that the Viles lived there. I don't think any of them would have risked it, apart from not knowing the Banes were there.
