Little Miss Sunshine

Post by dlbpharmd »

I just watched Little Miss Sunshine, and this movie is freakin' hilarious! I'm not sure if it deserves the Oscar for Best Picture, but it's a must see!

I almost wet myself watching Little Miss Sunshine, and now I tell everyone that will listen to go and see it. So very, very, funny.

SUPERFREAK! SUPERFREAK! :haha:

I saw this with my bro and my two nieces at home. After about the 30th profanity from grandpa and the squirming thereafter, it was rather funny, but I was shocked to see this nominated for best pic. That little girl is a natural, though; first flick (i think) was Signs and as a 5yo, she was a show stealer.
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

It reminded me a bit of the structure of Napoleon Dynamite: character driven humor--often of the "quirky" kind--for a climax that is obviously similar in form, if slightly different in theme. I love that movies like this get made. Not every film is the artistic equivelant of mass-produced sausages extruded from a mixture of marketing and cliche, wrapped up the intestinal lining of corporate group-think and accountants' calculations. Sometimes it's about little girls performing an inappropriately sexual dance in a paradoxical combination of her dead grandfather's misplaced-advice, and her own youthful dreams, too innocent to notice the incongruity. That, and the adults around her who are mature enough to notice the incongruity, but also mature enough not to care. That was a cool moment, and worth the wait.

Spoiler
The great thing about the inappropriate sexuality of that dance though was that all the other contestants performances were highly sexualized as well - hers was just blatant, almost as if she (or her grandfather) was calling them on their behaviour. And the guy who applauded her dance was a nice touch. :D

The most touching part of the film, in my opinion, was when her brother discovered that he was colour-blind. Like I said, I almost wet myself watching this movie, but that scene had me with tears in my eyes.

Add another voice to the chorus of cheers for this film. I rented it for the wife as I had no desire to see it. I ended up enjoying the movie immensely. I love it when a film wins me despite my preconceptions about it. Good flick!
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Little Miss Sunbane was "hilarious"?
I thought from the title it would be just the opposite.
