I like it too which is why I just emailed SRD with the quote that Wayfriend posted.

Vain actually noticed the "shall pass utterly" quote first (as far as I know). He should take all the creds.

My editors don't care whether it's "shall" or "should": they want a completely different title. (Of course, I'm also intrigued to see that there *is* a "shall pass utterly" in the text. My memory is crumbling. But the line from TIW would have been a better quote for my purposes than, well, almost anything from LFB: I wanted to refer to Kevin, not Berek.)

Be well!

--Steve
I had to ask the man so I posted his response here. Looks like it's a whole new title.

Yeah, thanks Jenn. Good information.

R.I.P. Shall. You shall be missed.

Athough it is interesting that SRD wanted to "refer to Kevin, not Berek".

Hopefully the new title will be cool. I have faith in any author who can come up with the title "This Day All Gods Die."

Actually, not that I think about it, I really hope its a cool title. Because just by going from the titles, none of the others really do it for me. (The Runes of the Eath, Fatal Revenant, The Last Dark.)-jay

Perhaps the title should be "Kevin's Lament". I think that would be cool. It's the name of the poem SRD was trying to quote from. And the overtones are quite omenous.

I *liked* "Shall Pass Utterly". And I thought "Should Pass Utterly" sucked.

*I'd* buy a book titled "Shall Pass Utterly". Stupid marketing people.

<grumble, mutter>

Whatever.

("Kevin's Lament" would be cool, too, though.)

Well, I couldn't wait for more GI stuff because I genuinely liked "Shall Pass Utterly" alot so I had to email him and demand to know why his silly editors would do something so heinous! :?

Yeah, it sounds like most people here agree, "Shall Pass Utterly" is a cool name for a book. The publisher dropped the ball.-jay

First of all, very nice TWL t-shirt, Wayfriend!

I'm eager to see what the new title will be!

Seems like SRD hasn't had this much trouble over a Chronicles title since Lord Foul's Bane.

Jim K: As always, thank you for writing. I am reading Runes for the second time and want to know....
Are the Bloodguard part of the problem of Kevin's Dirt?
In other words, is their denial of Earthpower towards the common folk causing the phenomenon?
Also, I am starting to feel sorry for Foul. He and the stars are imprisoned, so to speak. Does the Creator hold some accountability towards the demise of his creation and Where is he?
thanks again. Jim K

No, the Haruchai share no responsibility for the existence of Kevin's Dirt. They don't do any magic. Withholding or stifling knowledge isn't the same thing as manipulating or tarnishing Earthpower. If asked, they might say that they consider Earthpower sacred: too sacred to be (mis)used by fallible human beings.

According to at least one of the Creation myths in "The Chronicles" (memory, don't fail me now), the Creator was unaware of the Despiser's presence within Time when he sealed the Arch. But even if you don't accept that hypothesis, imprisoning a being like the Despiser seems a pretty rational thing to do. (At the moment, I'm too tired to engage in a theological discussion about whether or not evil is a necessary challenge for human beings to face.)

(02/28/2007)
Well, there goes MY theory about Kevin's Dirt.....

Vincent: Hello again Steve, anxiously awaiting Fatal Revenant as always.

Has the third raver, Samadi/Sheol?, been destroyed completely, or will his/its spirit/power regenerate as Foul's has in the past?

I ask because I miss him. Three was a good number for ravers, don't ask me why, it just felt right.

...

Your Friend Vincent.

I'm not willing to answer your question about samadhi Sheol. That's "spoiler" territory, and I hate revealing what I'm going to do--or not do.
