What one thing should TC have taken to the Land with him?

Post by aTOMiC »

Given that Covenant managed to arrive from each of his summonings to the Land with objects from the Real World ie:White Gold, pen knife, boots, clothing etc, what one object might he have kept on his person that would have been of some benefit to him in the Land? Grenade, handgun, lighter, chapstick, toothpaste/toothbrush, gameboy, Chemistry 101 textbook, What? ;) 8O :P

Well, duh. If he had a copy of "Power that Preserves" on him, he could have known in advance that he was destined to win, thereby messing up his chances to win.

Idunno; maybe the book isn't enough. How about something small, yet full of unlimited power? Something he can carry about on his hand, that can protect him from anything harmful, and can strike out against his enemies? Something instantly recognizeable as a talisman of limitless power? Something that will make him revered and even worshipped by everyone he meets? Something like a.....Cosmic Cube?

Too easy. TC already had a talisman capable of "Cosmic Powers". I'm thinking more like a snickers bar. Imagine if Covenant only had chocolate, peanuts and caramel to help him recover from his forced fasting. Verily, more powerfull than Aliantha and Diamondraught combined.

Indeed! Would you need aftershave if you are burning your beard off with wild magic? Hmmmm... Perhaps TC should have taken to carrying around a backpack full of toilet paper and such. Imagine a month in the Land without some kleenex.

Everybody should know the answer to this one - a towel.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

What if Covenant was a different kind of person all together? Suppose he was a gun-toting vigilante like the Punisher. He arrives in the Land and the moment he sees Drool Rockworm he swings both of his fully automatic machine guns around and cuts Drool and the Staff of Law to ribbons. Just a thought.

Lets break this thing down.

LFB.
Covenant had no idea he was going to the land so he was stuck with whatever he had on his person at the time.
Shirt
Pants
Penknife
Boots
Socks
Underwear
Phone Bill?
Enough money to pay the phone bill? Or a check book.
House keys
The note given to him from the Creator/Beggar
(it would have been pretty funny if TC had lost his phone bill at the battle of Soaring Woodhelven.)

IEW
After his experiences during his first visit TC might have prepared a bit for the next one.
Lighter
Hand gun, Colt semi auto with 2 extra clips. (I know TC would never have one but...)
Electric shaver
Deodorant
Toothbrush
Band aide
A pair of Ray bans so he could look just as cool as Hile Troy.

PTP

SNOW BOOTS!

WL

Umbrella
Deep woods off
Portable a/c unit
Bush hog
Snake Bite Kit

OT

GPS unit
Life Jacket
Elohim spray

WGW

Coffin

I was thinking of prozac. The man really needed to chill out. :-)

"A towel" is, of course, the right (or at least the best) answer. Could you imagine how different the books would be if Covenant had a towel? He would have wrapped it around his eyes when descending Kevins Watch so he wouldn't see the fall. He would have snapped it at the urviles at the Celebration of Spring. He could have folded it into a thick square, and sat on it in Foamfollower's boat. The possibilities are endless!!!!

Along those lines... Back in my Navy days, I worked on satellite communications systems. There was a new system coming out that was the most complicated one in the world - and it was my job to write things like concept of operations, requirements documents, etc. for it. Everything about it dripped with engineering terminology and complexity, but I had to explain it to the average Joe Sailor / Joe Soldier. I wrote one document that everyone loved, because it was so simply written and explained. I wanted to take that further and write a technical document that people would actually WANT to read, but to do so it would not have been able to be written in an official "voice". Nothing in the military or government gets anywhere if it's not official-sounding and boring, so the project never went anywhere. But I had fun with it in my spare time, and kept the chapters that I had written - here's the link to it on my (old, dusty, out-of-date-for-over-seven-years, etc.) web site. Enjoy! (don't worry about the techno babble - it's should still be amusing to skim through)

A suitcase nuke, this way he could've carried one to Mt. Thunder and REALLY give the Fire-lions a run for their money (and messed up the urviles chances of even THINKING of attempting to resurrect Drool),
Then another one to loan out to Troy to booby trap Guards Gap when Foul's army was pouring in there (TIW)
Then yet a third to Foul's Creche and blast that towering monstrosity right into the ocean.

As for resultant radiation sickness... well they had Aliantha didn't they?
