The Good Thief

Post by danlo »

Just saw Nick Nolte in The Good Thief. Oustanding performance, Nolte still rules! (see: Affilction for another killer Nolte acting job) Engaging, believable: sorta Graham Green meets William Gibson in a strange way, talk about two completely different styles... In other words, kinda like "Our Man in Havana" meets "Barfly" meets hi-tech. Very engaging hiest job, Ralph Fiennes in a stunning two second Cameo and check out Vlad's Hendrix renditions. Heartbreaking and fun at the same time. (almost as many juxtapositions in that review as a Picasso painting! :D  )

I thought Nolte was awesome in "The Prince of Tides" too. Opposite Barbra Streisand...who I just LOVE. :)

Tulizar I loved The Quiet American .. though often giggle at the irony of the title .. ;) LOL

It was a brilliant flick!!

Pirates of the Carribean .. with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush as the Master Pirate who took command from Johnny Depp

it was good .. i didnt really think Depp did justice to his character though

*waits for Depp fans to froth at mouth*

.. rush and bloom were good .. no complaints there ;)

we saw Tomb Raider 2 .. love Angelina Jolie .. totally kick ass!! a tight package!! plenty of action and fluid .. kept moving nicely .. didnt like the scottish actor tho'.. <dont know if he really is scottish or just acting> but his character was predictable and wooden ..

.. what else have i seen lately .. Agent Cody Banks was good .. fun and light .. and Freaky Friday was also good .. wasnt sure before i saw it .. but i really enjoyed it.

Legally blonde 2 wasnt as funny imho as the first .. it was ok .. but i was a little disappointed .. it was toooo cliche :(

league of extraordinary gentlemen was total and complete crap! :( sooooo disappointed .. Connery was also just average .. the best character actor was the Gray character .. he was good.

the vampire - Nikita girl .. was very very wooden .. imho .. ack!! oh the jeckel hyde dude was ok .. but just ok .. the story was woeful and just where was the plot??

what else have i seen? ... mmm ... have to get back to yers on that .. mind freeze ..

There are a couple of good movies that just came out that I'd like to see. Kill Bill is one, and Mystic River also looks good.

Looking forward to season 15 of the Simpsons. Just purchased Matrix Reloaded on dvd. Enterprise is giving me a headache. Scrubs is cool. NFL= cool. Not much else until Revolutions and Return of the King arrive.

Wha?!! Depp was the only actor worth his salt in that movie. The equivalent of Lewis in Gangs of New York.

are you talking Pirates of the Carribean??? 8O 8O .. uggh cant agree! he was the best looking for sure .. but as for acting .. his suedo drunken/looneyness stupor thing just didnt work for me .. like sooo not convincing imho ..

i couldnt work out whether he was supposed to be drunk .. or looney or .. just really bad at acting either :?

Geoffrey rush was the most compelling of all the characters imho .. he was brilliant and credible ..

Depp was good .. dont get me wrong .. but i expected so much more of a saged actor that he is .. and he didnt 'sell' the role of whoever he was .. ;) ..even Bloom was more convincing imho.

and definately imho .. not the equivalent of Lewis in gangs of new york ..

Geoffrey Rush was exactly the same persona he's been in his last five movies (I point to his role as Cassanova Frankenstein in Mystery Men as my case in point), and as much as I like elf-boy, his performance was only slightly less wooden than Hayden Christensen in Episode II. And just like Gangs, Pirates was a great concept with great production with horrible casting only diminished by one polished performance.

Crikey ... you thought DDL was actually asked to do anything in Gangs Of New York? He had the easiest role ever seen, no real dialogue, no expressions whatsoever ... what a waste of a great talent. Wordy Lordy, that movie sucked.

Eh, I thought Neeson and Lewis did alright. I'm not saying it was Lewis' most challenging, brilliant role (or Depp's), but that it was a polished and crafted performance vice the flat, barely tolerable supporing cast.

They did fine, but they had nothing to do. No effort required. It was a Mickey Mouse movie.

I saw Pirates on the weekend as well as The League Of Extraordinary Men. I looooooved Pirates, loved Depp's loony Jack Sparrow, thought it was a great movie and will be adding it to my movie collection when it is released on dvd.

I was a tad disappointed with The League..... I actually fell asleep through the middle of it.... but my nephew thought it was kewl. :)

Rented City of Ghosts written, staring and directed by Matt Dillion. With James Caan, Gerard Depradie and the foxy girl who played Clooney's wife in Solaris. Natashca...somebody or other. Very entertaining, great Cambodian atmosphere-def $ well spent. 8)

I thought the whole thing was great. I haven't laughed at a simpsons episode in a while. Homer as death was killer.(no pun intended) Jerry Lewis as Frink's father was a stroke of Genius. I loved the time watch, especially when Lisa used it at the end. :-)
