Who wouldn't want a completely new and original SRD series
First of all I wouldn’t interrupt SRD from writing the Last Chronicles for anything in this world. However, I am hoping and anxious for a new and original Fantasy/SF series from my favorite author. It’s been a few years since we were treated to the Gap series. Reave the Just was wonderful to read but I am left wondering what new ideas SRD might have boiling below the surface of his imagination beyond Thomas Covenant. Allow me reiterate: I can’t think of anything more exciting than getting a third Chronicles. My thoughts swim with possible scenarios for Donaldson to explore. I suppose once his current project is concluded he may find the time to hit us with something we weren’t expecting. Until then I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of book one.

As I said somewhere else I can't wait for a third set of short stories, or a story about Darsint's (MN) alien worlds--if SRD ever does write another series I do think it will be a Sci-Fi set on Earth. I can't really tell you why, but I swore I saw the "wheels" spinning in his head as we both watched Minority Report 6 months ago, or so...

Since sci fi and mystery are my two favorite categories, naturally I hope for those. There's nothing to say his previous patterns have to be set in stone. If he can surprise us in his plot twists, he can certainly do it in other ways.danlo wrote:if SRD ever does write another series I do think it will be a Sci-Fi set on Earth.
Also awaiting the next Covenant...

I would very much have liked to read something totally new and I think it would be most likely that SRD would write a horror-story, maybe a single-volume, if he'd write something new. There's plenty of horrific moments in the chrons and even in The Gap and it's a field he hasn't worked in...But now he's working on the third chrons, and he writes rather slow so they'll be finished maybe at it's earliest around 2008 and then two more years planning and writing the new book...well there it is...but do I look forward to next autumn, when Runes of the Earth will be published. OH MY GOD!

Steve just answered one question in the Gradual Interview that's rather interesting. He said he'll probably stick with fantasy after the Last Chronicles are finished - but after he writes the last Brew novel. Good news (and bad, I guess) for us fans of his mysteries. (not sure if I like the sound of "last")
I really like those characters, and the stories. I think of all the things he's written, the mysteries have the best chance for movie or television. Anyone else here watch the television series Monk? What a wonderful show! The character is so humanly flawed, and those same flaws are the ones that help him do his job. He reminds me so much of Brew, that I'm always picturing a Brew & Ginny series - narrated from the first person, of course, to keep the same tone as the books. "I missed her so much, my back teeth hurt." heh heh.
Brad Garrett (Ray's brother Robert in "Everybody Loves Raymond") as Brew (a giant of a man and a great actor), and Jeri Ryan ("Seven of Nine" from Start Trek Voyager) as Ginny (blonde bombshell - just give her a broken nose and a hook, and she's in there!)

No, not more Brew novels!! Of all his work, those "Man" novels are the weakest. It seems as part of his working style he has to get them out of his system before moving onto something else - but come on, they are not particulary well written; conintuous use of the same phrases, stereotypical P.I. behaviour but without any care or feeling for the characters. Still, when they get printed it means he's moving onto the next quality product...
