I am a touch worried. As some of you know, my brother is in remission having suffered through small cell lung cancer.

He called me last night saying that he was experiencing some difficulty with his left hand in terms of range of motion and strength.

What does that have to do w/ lung cancer you ask? The horror of it, that with small cell LC, if it comes back, often it comes back in your Frickin' brain.

Now, it may be nothing more than a pinched nerve, or it may be something less nefarious than that...but it is worrisome nevertheless.

Other than that I am groovy. We are travelling up north to see our friends in Rhinelander Wi. (pics below of Rhi)

Sorry, Guns. Hope it's nothing serious.

That picture of the lake is just what I needed, on a cold and rainy Friday. I took the kids camping in northern Wisconsin several years back. I'd never been that far north before and was struck by how beautiful it is, especially the area around Superior.

That whole trip was a lot of fun. We drove north to Superior, across to Minneapolis (Mall of America!), further west to Fargo (so that I could say I've been in N. Dakota, lol), then back to Chicago and on toward home. Somewhere in there, we also stopped at Lake Itasca and waded across the Mississippi -- it's a little teeny creek, there.

I've worn glasses since I was in kindergarten, 32 years. I had lazy eye/cross eye, had to wear the patch, taped glasses, do eye strengthening exercises, etc for several years in early elementary school. Back in 1993, an optometrist tried to fit me for contact lenses, but after several attempts over a couple of months, he gave up, and so did I. My extreme astigmatism is the major problem. It seems that my astigmatism is the kind that makes optometrists incontinent with excitement.

Back in December I went for an eye exam with a new optometrist in town, and at the end of the visit he asked me about contacts and I told him my story. He told me he thought he could fit me, would enjoy the challenge so if I would let him try, he wouldn't charge me for the additional visits.

So - I picked up my first trial pair of contacts today, and I can see fairly well with them, so well in fact that I'm still wearing them after 3 hours. They're not perfect, but they're dang close, closer than anything we tried years ago. I go back next Wednesday for follow up.
Follow up - unsuccessful trial run of first pair of contacts. After initial good results, eventually I lost the ability to accommodate, developed blurry vision and headaches. So, I'm back to glasses, while another set of lenses are being custom made.

I hope things will be good with your brother Guns.

Neat pictures of Rhinelander, but I don't think the boats are out up there just yet. :P

I'm tired. I spent a few hours of getting my butt kicked in Literati, again.

..Worried.

Lis went out this afternoon to a Yoga Conference in the city..she was supposed to be back two hours ago, and right now the wind is blowing like a gale, and it's kind of freezing raining out.

hang in there, drew. probably just a matter of her driving nice and slow to be safe and maybe she had to take a detour due to the weather.

I'm free! My work is done and all I have to do is hand it in (would have done already but the secretary is on lunch break).
I'm also feeling pretty awake and alert, despite having been up most of the night working. Although my stomach is feeling a little upset--I should probably eat something.

kinda sad ... my father has never really been in my life ... tho I've visited with him and my kids know him as their grandfather. Last night on ancestry.com I found out that he passed away in May of 2005. [I verified by finding his obituary in his local newspaper from May of 2005.]

His wife (not my mother obviously) hadn't called me. Perhaps she lost my number in my move from Omaha to Northern Virginia. I've meant to call and visit. Last time - probably in 2002 / 2003, he was sick and didn't want any visitors. But he said it wasn't serious. So my life went on ... contact had always been sporadic. And I thought I had all the time in the world.

Funny ... even when someone has never been in your life (I've probably seen him 10 times in 47 years), knowing that my dad has passed makes me feel something is 'missing'. Or perhaps better said - more 'missing' than before.

I feel a tad more positive this week. I'm not quite at the glass is half full stage but I'm more at the 'the glass is neither full nor empty, the level of liquid amounts to precisely half the glass' sorta thing.

I think one of the reasons I feel better might be becuase I downed a number of glasses last week-end with my brother and managed to rationalize a few things.

Onwards and upwards. :D

I'm sorry about your troubles, Creator. :( :)

Elfy -- congrats!

Murrin -- hope you got some sleep!

Creator -- sorry to hear about your dad, and sorry you're going through this. (It does seem like his wife could've made a better effort to find you.)

Marv -- Glad you're feeling better.

Kind of at sixes and sevens today. We saw a whole lot more of the ex-husband over the weekend than we have in years. I'm still sort of processing that....

my condolences, Creator. that is a real shame his wife didn't make more of an effort to contact you, give a chance to be at his funeral, feel some closure at least.

Cold. It's been going from sunny and windy to hail to snow on and off all afternoon. I think our annual mid-spring bout of winter weather is beginning.
