Just watched (and recorded) Balance of Terror. As it turns out BOT has surprisingly few occasions to showcase the new CGI FX. The episode, which mimics WWII destroyer / Submarine battles, is fairly claustrophobic (especially aboard the Romulan BOP) The FX improvements are noticeable but hardly striking. I look forward to seeing episodes like "The Doomsday Machine" that feature quite a lot of exterior shots and suffers greatly from the limited budget and old FX. Not too bad for a first effort though nothing to really jump up and down about. IMHO.

I saw it too!!! It was on real late in Green Bay (I went to the Packer game)...
It was very interesting to look for the new effects. The "phasers" which were really more like photon torpedos this early in the TREK series were cool, but the real cool part was the plasma field that is released by the romulan ship.
I too look VERY foreward to the likes of the Doomsday machine.

Watched The Tholian Web this past weekend. Effects enhancements are continuing to be be pretty cool. I'm glad I elected to record each week's new episode on my DVR. I have 15 episodes thus far. The enhancement team is doing a very good job. Biggest impact thus far still remains The Doomsday Machine.
