None of you have found my reason yet, but the things you are saying ARE right.

I will give you another clue. When he does the thing I am thinking of, it seems very insignificant at the time, but it is something that, to my knowledge, we never see another bloodgaurd OR Haruchai do. It becomes more signicifcant in the second chrons, as it helps explain how the haruchai know so much of the Land in former days, and why they so often invoke the name of Bannor as the one who taught their people...

Bannor asks for Covenant's aid/ entreats him to use wild magic in saving Elena. Did any other bloodguard ever ask for help, ever?

He also keeps the marrowmeld sculpture and gives it to Mhoram at Gallows Howe

Fist got it. Bannor is an oral historian/bard/teacher of his people.

He starts reciting things in his native tongue to get the boat to move in escaping Earthroot.

Everyone made some wonderful guesses, though.

I don't know that Bannor actually touched the ring either. Certainly the hand, as when he placed it onto the Staff of Law to summon the Fire-Lions, but he might not have actually touched the ring. But am I forgetting another scene where he definitely touched it? In any event, that's not the answer I'm after.
