I'm indifferent to Dunst. She's basically just a space filler; any one of numerous others could fill the MJ space just as well as her.Wayfriend wrote:Hmmm... I think she's right. Dunst wasn't my first choice to play MJ, but now that she's done it, I really, really do not want another acress to take over. I'll put up Star Trek III as a perfect example; re-casting Kyrstie Alley's Savik was just the wrong thing to do. What could have been a character that stayed until the Next Generation cast took over the series ended up being written out of the series in the opening schene of episode 4.
In any event, Kyrsten isn't just talking about herself; she's talking about Tobey and Sam Raimi being out. If that's the case, Spiderman 4 would be like another film altogether. I didn't mind it when DC decided to replace Michael Keaton with Val Kilmer for Batman 3, but that's because Batman 2 was really not good. Spiderman has hit its stride, and I don't want to see it falter, which is definitely what it will do if you take out the director and 2 main characters.
I'm also hopeful Peter Jackson will be doing the Hobbit. I think it sucks that this is messing with 2 of my favorite movie series!

agreed about the Batman vs. Spider-man comparison.
But I like Dunst. She is damn sexy! All those wet clothes scenes!....!
And she emotes the right kind of emotion with her eyes and body language. that is so underrated and difficult. Nope, don;t want to see any of them go, nor could I see a new movie (in the theare) without them.
yum.

Dunst is super pretty!
I know that because the media has told me so countless times.
On magazine covers, TV......
Just like that clownfaced Julia Robert was so pretty!
Arrghhh!
(sorry I have issues with those two........sorry)

Raimi is the key, with McGuire coming in a close 2nd. Any other dirtector might not focus on the man in the suit in the sensitive and faithful way that Raimi has. McGuire is the perfect geek/hero ...but I think they might be able to find a replacement for him Jake Gyllenhal comes to mind.

The latest reviews are so/so now. This one seems to explain the movies problems best, with no spoilers.
Massawyrm Says SPIDER-MAN 3 Goes Limp Half Way Through The Lovin'!!
Massawyrm Says SPIDER-MAN 3 Goes Limp Half Way Through The Lovin'!!
The first half is INCREDIBLE. I mean it is perfect. Every moment hits just right, playing every note perfectly. It’s funny. It’s touching. It is unbelievably badass. [...]
And then the unthinkable happens. For five minutes – five gut wrenching, heartbreaking minutes – the movie becomes epically awful. [...]
... the movie resumes as if nothing had happened. But it never regains the momentum that it had before. The second half of the film is GOOD. But never GREAT. Never SOLID.
.
Massawyrm is a lame reviewer. the guy went on a hysterical rant about how Happy Feet was a subversive anti-Christian movie aimed at unsuspecting kids. that said, it does look as if Spidey 3 is not going to get reviews quite as good as 1 and 2 from those put up so far on Rottentomatoes.com. at present it is at 68% fresh, which is good but not great. i think this one will be lighter on the writing and heavier on the action than the first two movies, which reviewers seem to look down upon.

Going tomorrow with my friend Seth, his sister, and her boyfriend. I think she's already bought the tickets.
I’ve done a pretty good job of ignoring this film. Almost forgot it till a week ago. No reviews, no trailers. I remember the first two LOTR films; I lapped up every bit of media. Almost as if I’d already seen them, by the time I sat down!
I had some restraint with Return of the King, thankfully.

Haha, in terms of Fellowship it was almost the reverse situation for me. I read no reviews, and only saw one trailer for it - but it was so good it made me want to see it. And it, of course, completely blew me away.
I've been mostly ignoring all the media stuff over Spiderman 3. I'll probably see it...eventually.

I still got chills and near-tears moments with Fellowship. I think it was the fact my grandfather was watching it with me--that I could share my LOTR geekdom in a way that he could actually absorb and enjoy (instead of me waxing on about how cool furry-footed people were that smoked long pipes).Matrixman wrote:Haha, in terms of Fellowship it was almost the reverse situation for me. Spoiler
Very mixed feelings, on one hand the action sequences are all you would hope for, but for every ace bit theres a terrible bit.
The scene in the jazz bar was dire, as was the harry and MJ cook-off.
It was a good film, but for Spiderman 4 - no more crap scenes like the ones mentioned, more web slinging antics.
Why was Venom hurt by high frequency sound anyway?
And Peter wearing eyeliner in his emo vase was stupid.
(ps i predict Sandman is a good guy in the next film)

But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
Full of the heavens and time.

Yeah, I couldn't help cringing slightly at emo Pete, but at the same time, his dodgy posturing and dancing amused me.
I forget why Venom is vulnerable to sound, but I believe he had that vulnerability in the comics too (or at least the symbiote suit did). I was disappointed with how little there was of Venom, and how rapidly he was defeated in the end. I hoped he might even last to number 4. Still, the Spidey/Goblin vs Venom/Sandman scene was great - thumbs up for that one. Slightly irked by Harry's reasons for helping out though; when Peter asked him for help, I anticipated a Buffy/Spike-style truce between hero and villain, to defeat a greater evil that could destroy them both. Oh well.
Does anyone predict Carnage for Spiderman 4?
EDIT: Warmark, if you want the comic version of the Venom story, you can find it HERE.
